Large Scale Central

Steam on my buisiness trip

I had a trip south to Annapolis teaching two boat building classes.

The first stop was on the way down at my friend Jim’s place in Ardmore, PA. Jim and I each had our Modified Emma 7/8th scale Forneys. I helped him with the project and made a few parts for him…he did a great job too. his is the grayer one with the swoopy roof and a deep whistle. I made the cars. he is planning a 7/8th scale Sandy River Caboose

Jerry lives just down the road from where I was teaching in Annapolis. I stopped by after class several times and we had great fun. I brought my 1:20 scale scratch built Maine Forney and a string of partially finished coaches. he ran his Accucraft 2-cylinder shay, Bumble Bee and Forney. he has a nicely detailed layout with a large new section with lots of possibilities.

On Saturday between classes, Jerry took me to his friend Dwight’s place half an hour away. Dwight has a large new layout for his big collection of “sparkies.” Dwight likes modern diesel standard gauge stuff … and his Big Boy! he didnt take any of his toys out but let us oil his tracks with our steamers. he also made a very nice barbeque dinner for us.

the classes also went well! We built kayaks from kits in a week. here the second class shows of the products of a weeks work. I had to saw apart the sectional kayak. it will bolt back together for use and fit inside his car for transport. I guess this is my other hobby!

Very nice Eric… I’m just outside of Harrisburg and you were real close to Ken Brunt

Nice videos, Eric. Made me nostalgic for Annapolis!

I was hoping to meet you Pete! Jerry speaks highly of you. I guess the 80 degree weather we were having while i was there is too cool for you?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif) I tend to come by in the off season…next time is early November…will I miss you again?

here is some steaming I did once I got home:

and my friend Steves Christmas swap project from a fellow in the UK ( I sent him the duplicate of the boat in the previous video) This is the seven/eights lounge version of Miks challange.

Great videos Eric. Next time you pass by you have to stop by on he new RR. Love the hand car and the boat on the flatcar.

Looks like the perfect trip. Lots of great shots on some nice layouts. That 7/8th is just big. Looks fun. Those kayaks look great too. Especially the one in front with the 2 dry compartments. Thanks for sharing.
