A few weeks ago I was shopping at a local Vons, when suddenly I heard a very distinctive, and familiar sound. My heart beat a little faster. Could it be a steam locomotive?? I headed in the direction of the sound so I could hear it more clearly. Sure enough, it was the sound of a real steam locomotive, chugging and blowing its whistle! It was coming from an animated display advertising gift cards.
Certainly was fun to hear that while standing in line at the checkouts. Unfortunately it’s been silent on return visits – either malfunction, or the checkers got tired of listening to it. But another Vons near here has the same display, still chugging and whistling.
