Steam at the fair

Today was the last day of our local fair (Sussex County Farm and Horse Show -NJ State Fair) The last weekend the Richards building has the mens hobby expo. Two of our guys does a modular layout and run live steam trains. They have been doing this for the last four years. Today I took my 0-4-0 and ran with them. Despite the rain we had a good time running trains and talking with people. Here are a few shots I took using my cell phone. The lighting was not the best for pictures and my phone does not capture movement well.

me and ig like the Forney…please tell us all about it.

I forget what Accucraft steamer it is but my friend in our club modified it by adding the tender and the trucks in the back. I can find out more from him if you would like. The other is the accucraft Ruby that also was modified with the tender ect… and RC added. Its a great Live Steamer but it took him 4 years to get it to run perfect even on grades. I wish I the skills with metal and re-tooling stuff like him.

Shawn, with that valve gear it is surely a Roundhouse loco and not an AccuCraft model. Very nice, though, and well used and loved, if the missing paint on the cylinder we can see is anything to go by.

Nice location though–next to the Homebrew Club!

Looks like a nice show! The Aristo 0-4-0 yours? Any problems with it? I’m hoping to run mine soon (tonight).

Yes the Arsito 0-4-0 is mine. It is a great live steam engine especially for someone new to live steam. It runs right out of the box without having to make any adjustments. I have not had any issues with mine so far and it has been run alot already. I think the biggest problem with the 0-4-0 was the jet clogging easily. I have not had that problem yet and plan on putting some cotton into it for a filter. Let me know how yours runs.

We have not seen the Aristo 0-4-0 here in any numbers, prolly because of the price - north of $1600…on ‘special’!!!

The AccuCraft 0-4-0 is, however, well-received and at least four are owned by folks I know - they are VERY pleased wit hit, but saddened to note that the cab is so tight [even for fingers] that there seems to be little chance of installing r/c.

We are looking forward to the B & O switcher version - #96 - with the slope-backed tender, having owned the H0 Rivarossi version since 1968.

Enjoy!!
