Stay away from the Dominican Republic

As some of you know, my other main interest is shooting, and writing on shooting and gun-related websites, based, mainly, in the USA. One such forum that tolerates my rather odd views on life and how to do it is the Luger forum, a great bunch of guys, many of whom I have had the privilege to have met over the years whilst over in OR and WA.

This was posted the other day, and I thought that you might like to read it - it gives an insight into how our Dominican pals drive around all day, shooting the sh*t, and each other as well…

This was my response -

'If the Dominican Republic is a place where folks routinely pass loaded and chambered weapons to each other whilst driving, it might just be one of those places to include out of your next vacation wish-list.

If you think that being shot in the leg is ‘ok’, what do you consider to be a more serious shooting accident?

What caused this is simple - two half-wits handling a loaded and cocked handgun and trying to do something else at the same time.

The place to read how and when a cocked and loaded gun discharges whilst the driver holding it hands it over his shoulder in a moving vehicle is called ‘The Book of Life’, my friend.

I love to see a self confessed “gun nut” admonish idiots with guns. Good for you! Don’t carry one myself but believe others have a right to ownership…except these type of fools. They should lose their privlages to carry (assuming it was legal to begin with) just like a drunk driver loses his right to drive! Educated gun owners are the best defence of the 2nd amendment.

As far as your header…“Stay away from the Dominican Republic”…no further explaination was needed.

I’m no gun fan but if someone has a gun thats discharging by simple handling then something inside is worn out to the point of extreme hazardness and it should immedialty be dissassembled and inspected, something is very wrong internally.

Victor,

It’s the heads that need to be examined, but you’re right it is an internal problem.

I think that the linkage between the seat and the trigger-guard is faulty and needs to be surveyed.

Sir, I object to being called a 'gun nut'. I am an enthusiastic shooter, sure, especially when I am shooting the collection of firearms I have to leave behind me in the US, but a 'nut' I am not.

I AM a dedicated life member of the National rifle Association since 1974.

I AM a life-time rifle and pistol coach specialising in passing on shooting skills to disabled shooters.

I AM also a writer on five US gun-related fora where the collection and appreciation of fine firearms is undertaken in a serious manner, as befitting the use to which they can be put. I am also an advisor and Crown Expert Witness on the identification of firearms captured in use by criminals on CCTV and other forms of surveillance, and have appeared in the highest courts in the UK giving evidence to that effect.

Keen shooter, yes.

‘Nut’?

Not.
