Google let me down… what’s an icicle shield?

My understanding is the East Coast railways suffer from low clearance tunnels. This restricts the height of cars that can be ran through them. One reason for the Solarium cars being designed.
Anyway because of the low clearance issues lower height domes were created also as a way of attracting riders. Cold temps, with water drips caused damage to the domes at times so the icicle shield broke the icicles ahead of the dome glass eliminating the damage to the domes. Note that what I have seen of these they were only installed on one end of the car. The normal direction of travel end. so these cars had to be turned prior to their return trip.

Daily except Sunday service included Parlor car with Dining service.
Note: No.35 westbound was due 4.20 PM - 4.30 PM.
Note too the icicle breakers mounted on the roof to protect
dome car windows inside tunnels in Northern Ontario.

A device mounted on the roof of a dome passenger car to break icicles hanging from over head structures to they don’t break the glass on the dome of the passenger car.

Don’t really want to do this, nor do I want to break up the consist, nor do I need MORE STUFF as I’m thinning myself. However I would like to call dibs on the first baggage car and the custom mail car but you know what will eventually happen to them. LOL

It’s a badass consist!

Very interesting, is the steam generator car unpowered?

You should buy the entire consist and keep them in M L & E livery. It could be a privately owned train that operates over mainline trackage with Amtrak. Think Bennett Levin.

John it’s been so long since I built it I don’t recall and should have checked before posting. I’ll pull it out and make sure but I do believe it is still a powered unit

Well the real versions were unpowered.

yes but I think it"s powered because my cars were in need of the extra umph.

They are now on the side for you

I added this car to the 1st post:

Dave, if anyone isn’t going to buy the entire set, i could see the steam generator being repurposed for my Golden Sands Senior Club’s special trains.

See PM John you are first on it.

Kid-zilla just bemoaned our lack of wide curves!

Eric

Hope the clan had a great Christmas :sunglasses:

We did, thank you! Trains, as you saw, played a big part!

He sure did! That NW-2 hasn’t left the tracks since!
