Large Scale Central

Starting over!

well the bride and I decided yesterday that I should relocate our rail empire to a better viewing location in the rear yard of our home vs. the side. The new locale will allow the best view possible from the Deck and our Breakfast area in the kitchen.

I hope to get some shots and dimensions over the coming week!

and while I’m at it…may as well admit; I am so tempted to sell off the American, Porter, Climax, 45er and all to go Full Euro!

It’s a true shame that the only Mfg. to make and sell affordable (at one time) “little engines” don’t/won’t sell in the US for now…

Cale, yep, it’s really hot here in the Valley, too.

Now seriously, what’s wrong with all that fine rolling stock you have already?

Cale fell in love with those round “porthole” windows. I think he must have been a sailor in a previous life

nothing “wrong” other than I can’t keep those images of “little engines” running on my layout?

That’s all? You’ll get over that, just as soon as your kids let you!

I love the European loco’s also. I’ll just run both . Being the Scale Barbarian has its advantages.
I used to have a bunch of Fleischmann HO trains I would buy in Germany when I was grade school age. But even in the 60’s most of it was “modern”. I was buying Preiser figures and Faller buildings. You couldn’t get any of it here at home at that time. Too bad I wasn’t smart enough 10 years later to import it.
Ralph

Ralph,

Don’t get me wrong, my whole layout is European … errrr … it is Swiss … errrr … it restricts itself to one corner of Switzerland.

look what just showed up in the mail today…I’m embarrassed to say I paid $27. shipped to my door…needs some TLC, but it runs!

begins so it does

HJ,
I like a little bit of everything in my “Walter Mitty” railroad empire.
I wouldn’t have the heart to start over like Cale. But I would like to expand some day so I can run the big modern Diesels.

Very cool, I’ve been keeping an eye out for similar deals. Happy to see you snagged one. Ralph

New planned area= 34’ x 24’ all on grade (after building retaining wall)…

Former (current) 60’ x 15’…track plan laid out due to track on hand (used mix of curves and straights)

I gotta bunch of sectional track…all sizes of curves…now that I’ve got the Train-Li…I don’t need 'em…whatcha think about straightening, soldering rail joiners then re-bending them to fit new track plan…

Looks like someone else is reading my post here on LSC…received last night, decided to post tonight.

Plowing Along
Just in case any of you out there were beginning to think that our scale wasn’t getting enough “new toys,” or worse yet, were thinking of leaving the scale behind altogether, let us entice you today with the following three photos from RGM-UK.”

written just for me? I’d like to think so!

Thanks Dan! Looks like the powers that be believe I should stay with Fn3

If I had a Train-Li I would have used it to bend some larger radius curves out of my sectional track. If you bend Aristo sectional, remove the two screws holding the ties to the rail. You may also have to cut between the ties, separating them.
Ralph

You going to move all`of that dirt in the backyard now, Cale ?

there won’t be too much to move…the mountain will go flat, prob use that to fill behind the wall…then toss a couple of scoops up to make a new mtn!

Cale,

If you are thinking about soldering the stock Aristo rail joiners, then bending with the Train-Li, it won’t work. The Train Li hits the stock rail joiners. I just had that problem.
You could bend first, then solder, but you won’t be able to go back over the track with the Train Li.

It does fit over Split Jaw rail clamps.

I’ve noticed it snags on LGB brass connectors, also.
Because I’m Batt/RC, I was going to just use the stock LGB track connectors, to allow for ease of installation and expansion.
Looks like I gotta use Hillmans after all. At least on the curves. I’ll use the LGB connectors on the straights.
The Train-Li is a great bender, but still has it limitations. :frowning: :frowning:

I use my train li over aristo joiners all the time. It bumps a little but i haven’t had any issues.
