Large Scale Central

Starting on the Highland Springs Branch

Whilst I have not dropped any track down for the branch, we did place the packing plant down at the proposed end of track, it is a bit bigger than I had planned for the spot, but we will make it work.

That looks a superb building John, it will make a great feature on your railroad.

That looks good. When do you plant citrus trees?

Today we did a bit more surveying since the view in the photo represents a 180 degree turn in the structure from how we had originally had it planned, which in effect moved the track into a spot I really didn’t want it. If we have a few more weeks of decent weather I might level the ground and bend some rail, since the soil at El Patron on the other end of the yard is still very wet, and this section sits on around twelve inches of decomposed granite.

The more i look at the photo I have to chuckle, since I could have tossed a couple pieces of track down to give it some perspective.

Doug, I think the citrus grove will be slightly around the bend

Darn that building looks good! LOL! Finally get to see one of my creations in place! Can’t wait to see the track down.

You mean Mike doesn’t want to build a grove?

I agree

Do we get to see the Highland Springs branch coated in white?

Doug, barely a dusting so far, however to the east Big Bear did get a foot of snow today. With the significant northeast winds, we are in a wind event staffing pattern at work, so I have not seen the RR in the daylight yet.

We managed to drop in a couple pieces of track and a siding for some sort of cement or other bulk material transfer facility as we eventually head towards the packing plant at the end of the branch.

Nice work John. I’m waiting to see an overall view to see how it’s located

Looking good. Its that time of the year again. Warmer and longer days make for perfect track laying.

I staged this today, to get an idea of what I might do with this small siding. (This is for Fred!)

Well this week I made several trips to collecting rocks to keep this area from washing away. This morning in the rain we placed most of the rocks. A few more loads and we will be able to finish the siding.

If that’s not a 1/24th scale wheelbarrow, your back must be letting you know it’s not happy
Ralph

haha. The worst part is that rock pile is about 20 feet above the road, and its railroad tie stairs.

I really don’t know which is worse. The rock I’ve been moving to “build” the new “mountain” is all at the low end of the property and has ro be wheel barrowed to the upper part of the property.

Although I’m not in shape to move it at least I don’t have stairs!

yeah its a real pain in the butt hauling materials, since all the rock on the and decomposed granite has to carried up those darn stairs.

the rock retaining walls along the slopes have been completed and the last 20 feet of the Highland Springs branch are laid in place. This siding will serve the produce packing plant at the end of the line.

Looks good John.
