Large Scale Central

Start of new Big Springs and Jackpine RR

This is what it started with

This is what it is turning out to be

took the best of Cedar decking turned it upside down and just painted it, just did this in the last 2 weekends, will enclose under the deck and keep trains in there, did not want it as big as last house, will have 2 loops and turnouts on both loops, towards the back will have an extended loop with my bridges by a Japanese maple, will look really cool when its done, I hope…

Sweet!

looking good thanks

smart re use of the cedar! Save the shorter boards from the decking to cut up for bumpers, buildings, bridges, platforms and etc. even tho they arm’t long enough for your roadbed they will cut down fine into scale lumber for whatever.

And you never know what the next build challange will be.

Nice start! When anyone asks “do we have room for that?” just remember the outdoor railroader’s war cry…WESTWARD HO!

Very neat and substantial looking bench work. That’s going to be swell. Are you going to build on the raised rocked area on the left also?

Great start!

I have to admit I’m kinda worried about the loading of all the benchwork onto those sideways cinder blocks, concrete ain’t exactly renowned for its tinsel strength and you’ve got a bit of a load pushing down on a span thats not intended for that kind of loading. Whats going to happen is you risk one day the spanning part of the block the posts are resting on is going to break under the weight and that part of the benchwork will drop down, this is particularly vulnerable in the blocks with an X pattern, I’m just warning you now before you too far along to consider what I’m saying.

Tom,

Vic is absolutely correct. The blocks ‘should’ be square in that direction. Turn the blocks 90 degrees so the webbing in the center of the blocks are vertical and place the posts on the vertical webbing. If you are concerned about settling, scratch a bit deeper under the blocks and add a square patio block (solid) under the cinder/concrete block. That will last longer than some of the other materials you are using.

Hey Richard, the bench will just be below that, I will take better angle pic when I lay some more boards, really like the building noel did with you, that will work on the narrow part of the bench, saving that one, really liked that one.

Vic, its just temporary, all those boards I had to stack somewhere after I pressure washed then painted, there will be only 2 boards on it when I am done, moving them all this weekend.

Will take more pics this weekend of the other end, and when I take the pile of boards off and screw the rest down will take pics of better angle so you can see there will be hardly any weight on those benches, and they are spaced about every 3ft

That’s a neat place to start with…

Got any close up photos of your storage building I see in the back ground… Looks good what we can see of it… Good place for it too.
Also, Going to be a easy way to run or should say play with the R.R. the way you have it laid out so far.

More pics, back is 90% done, just need to finish where I will put a lift out section in
