ST Aubins

Last time I spoke with Jim I believe he said he fired the guy who had been working on his site as he was not doing what he was supposed to be doing and at the time was looking for someone to replace him.

If he needs his site worked on, I’m sure I can work something out with him…

Vic, they weren't burning anything off at deep discounts in York. Even their "take 20% off our low sticker price" sale was still way higher than most of the vendors prices.
I agree.
So it was like when Borders went under, hike all the prices, then offer the "discounts" still end up paying full price. Sheesh!

Be interesting to hear what “deals” will be had at the liquidation.

The sight's been down for almost a year. That tells me there isn't any incentive to go on line.
John, if you need something or want a price quote, just call him, he's not very quick on emails, and he told me also he was having trouble with the guy building his site for him. Maybe Bob and him can get together and get something done. I hate it when someone promises you something and it never gets done. Regal

At ECLSTS I only priced AMS cars. Last year I paid about $90 for a tank-on-flat and this year just over $40 at St. Aubins, so I thought that was OK.

Jon, they must have lowered them after I walked through. They had them at around $75 when I saw them. Glad to see you got some deals.

I think the marked price was around $75. They took another 40% at the register.

Hi All, went to Woodstock this morning and talked to Matt at St Aubins, and pretty much what Rick Isard said is true, my experiences with St A’s has always been good and on a positve note, their prices were lower that most, and better than what the factory website prices were. Matt did say that when the smoke clears, possibly in a month or two, he’ll try to make contact either by e-mail or otherwise to us, and that there should be something in GR.

Since Pat died the place was never the same.

Don’t count your chickens until their? http://www.staubintrains.com/

Nothing has hatched… been a week.

Are you inferring that Matt will bring St. Aubins up from the ashes?

With all the inventory sold, how will he bring back the great discounts? Surely if he has the buying power to purchase huge quantities like Pat did to get the low prices, he could have bought the existing store inventory himself.

Nope, if the name comes back, I can’t see how it will be the same low price leader, at least not for several years.

ok, yall got my Dander up a little…

It always amazes me, when some tries something new, how everyone and his brother seems to have their ““it ain’t never going to work attitude””…

I’ve known Matt for a few years, mostly all from train shows… he and I have spent a lot of time in the back of that big yellow truck, trying to locate USA tie track for me at York… Matt is a hard working, consientious, and caring individual… One of his joys hapens to be Trains… Matt is trying to accomplish staying in the hobby and hopefully get a Hobby Shop opened… Yes, It’s going to be a heck of a feat, especially in this economy, but he’s going to give it a try… I for one think that we should be encouraging him, instead of stating how ““It’s not going to work””…

St Aubins will never be ““the same””… I always hear that ““Change can be good””…

So, why don’t we just give Matt some time, and hopefully, he can make it… Cheapest prices don’t always mean everything… It’s the service, and respect one gets, and gives from dealing with other people…

What matt is trying to get setup can not be done overnight… It takes time… At York, MAtt said to give him a couple of months… what do you say we have a little respect and give him the time, before we start critizing…

Just my 2 cents worth…

I’m all for change. I think I have 27 cents.

I think anyone who ventures into this market as a retailer deserves all the support that I can give him.

Go Matt!

Well said Andy!!!
It sounds like Matt is very passionate about our hobby and from your experiences dealing with him it also sounds like we would also like to deal with him also. If he can pull this off in a coupla months that would be great. But we have to remember “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. I wish him much success and we wait patiently for what he comes up with.

Hello everyone,

One thing we need to keep in mind here is, a business; whether it’s new or under new management is not constructed overnight and certainly not within a week. Matt loves this hobby, it’s enthusiasts and most importantly the ability in helping others! Matt would like to thank all of you for your continued support, and I’m sure an announcement will be coming soon.

I’ve never met Matt but it sounds like he’s someone that could sell trains WITH GOOD SERVICE that is sadly lacking in this hobby.

I’m lucky in that I get both good service and good prices from the dealer I buy most of my G scale stuff from.

I depend on good service because I don’t have the skills or eyesight to repair what I just bought. I shouldn’t have to do that but it seems many of the new purchases I make are not “perfect.” And it often doesn’t do any good to return the item to the manufacturer because they only have a staff to sell things, not support what has gone to the dealer. The dealer has to provide that support and it sounds like Matt could do that.
