Large Scale Central

St Aubins site infected with a trojan?

Can they kick or ban you off of a Retail Site??? hee hee hee hee I think the tables are turned we can now voice our opinion’s by just not ordering huh??? What an interesting alignment they have there??? Best thing to happen is that it doesn’t endure or last very long!!! Course like I say the only time I tried to do some business with em I had the product ordered and shipped from a different retailer who took care of me in a timely and efficient manner and the product was installed and up and running before they got back to me.

Never bought from them online. Once at ECLSTS but probably won’t again.

I comparison shopped one item with RRS. St. Aubins was $25 more on an under $200 item. I’m not going to pay a membership fee to find out if they might have a competitive or lower price. If you don’t show your best price to teh public, then I’m not buying.

Many in Australia are hooked on St.Aubins, using them exclusively. It seems to me that they must receive excellent service to keep going back. I use Ridge road and honestly have never felt the need to switch to another dealer since finding the site. I have been burned (though never lost money, but it took a bit of effort each time to make things right) with some of the other major players (not St. Aubins as I have never used them) and will always stay with Ridge Road as they have proven that they are able to provide an honest, friendly service. Their shipping department is second to none for friendliness.

I have never had a problem with St. Aubins. Since I am in Illinois - I have actually visited the Woodstock store several times. I bought my last LS engine from them - an LGB C&S, which I do love. It is a pretty good store and well run but that latest TROJAN pretty much indicated to me that they needed someone else to run the website.

I won’t begrudge anyone to make a buck.

What irritates me though is that my Lifetime Membership to LSOL somehow got messed up…

I can’t log in. It didn’t get cancelled but I can’t get them to send me my password. I think my email address is an old one.

No harm - no foul. I guess I need to get it corrected someday.

Long ago on LYSOL I had a problem with signing in and my password was not good. Couldn’t email them as my password was no good ! Catch 22 I guess ? I don’t remember but it took sometime to get it straightened out but then , I not there anymore. Who cares? LYSOL and St Aubins, I wonder why they teamed up as it just might implode someday. Kind of like night and day, very different.

You don’t have to order through LSOL. The account that you need to set up to order from St. Aubins is for their system, not LSOL’s. It’s like setting up an account to order from Amazon or most other online retailers or travel sites. The only thing you get with the “team large scale” partnership with LSOL is access to special deals and promotions. If access to that kind of stuff is worth the membership to you, then go for it. Otherwise, there’s no “punishment” for not being a member.

Once you figure out that you click the banner at the top to start shopping, you can shop, check prices (which–according to them are the same online as they are in the stores), and place your order–not even needing to log in (or create a user) until you go to check out.

Later,

K

I read that too. Most unfortunate wording, especially if one has inadvertently found themselves on the wrong end of LSOL as I have.

Aside from the regrettable LSOL connection, I found NO problems with the St. Aubins site and had no difficulty at all in navigating it, despite complaints I have read to the contrary.
Just go to “start shopping” and the manufacturer links are all there. From that point each type of item (locomotives, rolling stock and so forth) is segregated in a logical manner.
I also found the prices to be very competitive. It’s just too bad about that LSOL connection . . .

I’ve posted complaints about St. Aubin in the past on several boards… A virus, spyware, malware or spam on their site wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Years ago I stopped in their store while on a business trip. Something I did on a normal basis to see what kind of shops were out there and spend a little money etc. The guy (I assumed the owner at the time) was pretty rude and was talking or arguing with some guy about a tree (remember St Aubin is/was a huge nursery). I waited for about a half hour and finally left. I ended up going to West Bend Jackson (sp?) hobby shop up in Wisconsin and buying some sound units.

I’ll never to business with St. Aubin regardless of their pricing or deals with any other site.

Jon.
