SR&RL #553 second attempt

Unhappy with my first attempt (it will make a fine drover’s caboose for my line, but not what I had imagined), I embarked on a second attempt. Windows and dors were shuffled around. Single step end platforms, roof and cupola were taken from a B’mann centre cupola caboose. End ladders were from a B’mann bobber caboose. Cupola was firstly sectioned, removing 5mm from the window height. The length was then shortened by 10mm. While not the same as a prototype cupola, it is more along the lines than the standard centre cupola from the B’mann kit. End railings to fit (from B’mann coach kit) and interior (cobbled from pieces in the B’mann centre cupola kit).

Very very nice project ,Tim…

i saw a similar car once ,it was part of a circus train…

since then i’ve always wanted one…

Richard,
I have several LGB SR&RLRR Forneys and some passenger and freight rolling stock, but I wanted something to run that had the feel of the SR&RLRR. The passenger cars that I have from LGB, bear no resemblance to anything that the Sandy River ran. I hope to build caboose #551 and some passenger stock for the line.

While doing the interior, I noticed that the floor moulding timbers on the B'mann Big Hauler baggage car, look very much like the horizontal wide timber boards used on the interior of the prototype #553. The exposed wall in the baggage area is now 'timbered', as per the prototype. I will not be painting the interior dark grey as I have seen in some interior photographs. Possibly, a light grey or light green colour.

I looked up the website for the SR&RL RR ,Tim…

and i see what you are attempting to copy…

thanks for the info…i’ll definitely stay subscribed to this thread…

Dang, dude! You are definitely a picky SOB, aren’t you? :stuck_out_tongue:
