I guess this qualifies. Our local club set up on the former passenger platform at the O. Winston Link Museum in Roanoke, VA on June 2nd for Norfolk Southern’s 30th anniversary. (The museum is housed in the former N&W passenger station.) Shows my coal train and John Singleton’s lumber train.

Nice pics all. Like seeing the assortment of ideas in the pics. So much gets overlooked when we talk of our trains and the pics bring out alot of the overlooked bits.
Mark , that almost looks like a take on a castle in your last pic.

It’s a coaling tower for the D&H on the mainline near South Junction just outside of Plattsburgh NY. The right part of the building is the unloading room, 1 side for bituminous coal and the other for anthracite coal which the D&H used both, plus mixed both for some locos. they built this tower so that the trains could refuel in NY, head into Canada, then come back without refueling again. Saved them on taxes and haul charges over the border.

This book has the best picture I can find on the structure - http://books.google.com/books?id=TPqntdv9w7kC&pg=PA75&lpg=PA75&dq=coal+south+junction+plattsburgh&source=bl&ots=VumYuZ7MEt&sig=Gy_FMYL3stucKp_ISJlEkS2HYnI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=W08CT5n4IKLe0QGW86zeDw&ved=0CEIQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=coal%20south%20junction%20plattsburgh&f=false (http://books.google.com/books?id=TPqntdv9w7kC&pg=PA75&lpg=PA75&dq=coal+south+junction+plattsburgh&source=bl&ots=VumYuZ7MEt&sig=Gy_FMYL3stucKp_ISJlEkS2HYnI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=W08CT5n4IKLe0QGW86zeDw&ved=0CEIQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=coal%20south%20junction%20plattsburgh&f=false)

Thanks everyone for your photos.

Actually you have till 7:05 PM tonight…

I thought so; and originally posted that today was your last day. Then I read Ralph’s response and second guessed myself. Thanks for the official time.
