Spring Morning Run

Yesterday had one of those perfect mornings. A little cool. Still air and beautiful sunshine. Good time to show my father-in-law, the running of the Shay. He has showed an interest in this from the beginning, so I felt it was worth encouraging that idea.

Good experience for both of us.

Geee Ric…I got that yellow tool box too!

WOW short sleeves and pants, my kind of attire. Kind of getting that way here at last… Nice to have someone watch while you are firing up the engine.

Cheers,

Yeah, we’ve been in summer attire since about the 15th. Its just a uniform to me. Summer dress until around the end of September. I’m suppose to look like someone that likes to be around boats.

The tool box was left over from the tour boat days. I built a carriage to hold the shay, that slides into the tool box and uses the tray as the top. Keeps things clean and safe. I have a friend that had a cat knock an expensive engine off of a storage shelf. So a safe storage container was the first thing built, after we got the tea kettle. The tray was cut to allow the cab and boiler area to stick through. It holds all the stuff, but the fuel and water items. I’ve got a 5 gallon bucket with a lid for that stuff.

Ric,

Yes it has been great these past 2-3 weeks. The Shay looks great. I have been getting the RS-3 ready for your open house. New battery packs are ready to go. 19.6 volts for under $50.00 with charger.

That is a beautiful engine, maybe I can talk Rachel and Addie into letting me get a live steamer this year. But I think they would rather just see thier garden up and growing first, with some track layed in between the plants of corse.

Todd ,
When I had a wife , I used to buy her something to take her mind off the loco ; it could be a set of points , a boxcar , you know , the sort of thing they appreciate . Then I’d suggest she might like to do a bit of gardening by getting a trench dug and filling it with gravel so’s it looked like a track bed --you gotta keep them happy , buy her a new shovel , teach her to use a pneumatic drill to break up the rocky bits of her garden , so’s it’s easier for her to keep the weeds out of the r.o.w. .
Come on , man , use your courting skills and cosset the lady , buy her the best tools money can buy , she may even lend them to you if you play it right . I would keep away from chain saws though .
