SPRING! How bout' a spring 2009 pic thread.....post em' up

Well, time to add pictures too, I guess… Jane and I mentioned last fall, at a club meeting, that, if anyone saw any “dwarf alberta spruces” trees for sale, at 3 bucks, or under, to please let us know where they are, or to pick them up and we’ll come get them abd pay you for them… A Couple in the train club located about 25 of the trees, so Jane and I dedicated a “Park” to them… The following pictures is the rough start of ““Hadley Park””… There will be a station there, and the station will be serviced by RDC’s, running between Bluefield and Memphis…

The below 2 pictures are Hilltop Subdivison at the Sparta Subdivison “cut”, taken on 6 June 09…

The below 3 pictures are of Hilltop Subdivision (where the fresh dirt is)… Lower tracks are the Sparta Subdivision, working threw the “cut”… These pictures were taken this afternoon, 7 June 09…

The picture below, is looking fron Oakdale Junction, back to Bluefield… The mainline and siding are on the left… Tracks in the right, are the industrail park mainline and siding… Picture shows the handiwork Jane has done with the plants…

It is coming along, slowly, but surely… First weekend in a long time, we have been able to actually work on the layout…

Damn Andy that’s one big cut. Nice progress but it looks like the line is down after a bad winter.

Dave

Looks great Andy! Jane’s work looks awesome! What is all the green in the last picture (tyne maybe?)
Any future plans of expansion??

Dave M., I made the cut larger yesterday, to get the tractor in and out… We have decided to leave it a large cut, so we can add “scenery” (plants) along the lower tracks… And yes, the winter was a little harsh last year on the railroad, but for most of that it was the first winter, and it’s always bad the first year… There will be a double track 12 foot long bridge spanning the gap on the Hilltop subdivision…

David R, Yes, the green is time, wooly thyme… The brighter green with the flowers on them is also a thyme… The thymes worked well for us on the last layout, so we are using it again… We don’t use lemon thyme, because it’s 6 inches high and it spreads, almost uncontrolably… This railroad is a ten year project (But Jane wants it done in 2 years)… We are trying to work a comprimise… Not quite half of Phase 1 is completed, yet… Close, but no cigar…

Andy,
The plantings look great.
You have a major construction project going on there.
I think with a layout of that size, it would be cool to have wireless camera in the loco.
Pilot the train from the monitor.
Ralph

Those plants are filling in nicely. I remember it being a bit more brown last year. Like Ric says, “How to have fun in a soybean field”…

 Ken… I’m, trying…

You’re doing good, Andy…Jane too!

Ralph, Actualy, last year, one of the club members placed a vdeo camera on a flat car, in front of his engine, and ran it around the layout… The video looked great, however, he wasn’t sure how to save it, so it is gone…

Besides, you can’t do operations, by sitting back and watching the train run… You have to be there, to throw switches, un-couple cars, etc, etc…

Andy,
Thanks for the info on the thyme!
Angie and I love our herbs/veggie garden… got sage(2 types),parsley, chives, and just starting to experiment with thyme. I love walking off my back deck and “reaping my sow” a good percentile of our railroad is edible.
The rabbit’s cannot resist the smell of those herbs either, so I share with them, fully knowing they could someday be red meat on my table. Oh rabbits hate sage by the way! Why I don’t know?

Jane invited Andy and I to weed with her Friday evening, instead of going to the HO Operations at Mark’s house. Mark really was counting on us.

Great pictures, Andy! It was a beautiful weekend.

You pilot the train, and radio someone else to throw the switch and uncouple the car.
Just like the real engineers do
Ralph

 Ralph… that sounds like it might even work…

I nominate Ralph to be the guy who throws the switch and uncouples the car.

Simple theory to try
“Honey”… I’ll be happy to help weed the plantings “you desperately needed ASAP”(optional)…How bout’ I slap on a " Speedo " and I’ll be right out to help!
It might work?
