Spencer Shops 4/4/09

Had a great day at Spencer Shops Saturday. Met Ken at his Hotel. Ken may think I’m crazy…but he can now verify I am real. Too bad I’m a hack photographer…or I’d have some better pictures. I keep blaming the camera…wishful thinking? The weather was perfect. Ken enjoying the sunshine.

Here is the oil facility. Hope this helps you a little, Bruce.

The Shay…they are still trying to raise money for repairs.

Inside the roundhouse…the maintenance bays.

The GP-30 pulling the train Saturday.

Ken keeping a watchful eye on the engineer.

Controls of the GP-30.

Our engineer. One of the many volunteers that make Spencer Shops possible for all of us to enjoy.

Ken and our engineer after our cab ride.

Ken should be on his way home to Penn. this morning. Poor Ken had to listen to me run my mouth from 7:00am until 10:30pm and very graciously never told me to shut up or go home  Ralph

Now that looks like a great day!

When we first planned our visit last year I had no idea how large that place was - or how neat!

Thanks for some more shots, Ralph.

BTW, did Ken remember to bring the track?

Yes. Thank you sir..........and thank you to Ken also. Ralph

Humph. Ken didn’t mention this trip last week. I’m glad he made it.

Ken's had LOTS of practice being a patient listener. Just ask Fr. Fred :D

I only posted the good photos. Something is wrong with the camera.............it burned through 2 sets of batteries. I only took a couple dozen shots. Doesn't seem like the auto-focus is working correctly at times. Ralph

Ralph, I had a great time. Excellent host for the day. Kept me well informed about the whole place. I was impressed, it has great potential.

Got home around 2 PM which was a hell of a sight better than the drive down.

Haven’t had a chance to download any pix yet.

Again Ralph, thanx for a great day!

Very cool!
Thanks for sharing and awaiting Ken’s pics.

Happy to hear the trip home went smoother.
The pleasure was all mine.

Plenty more pix here: http://s253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/rgseng/Spencer/ Couldn’t have asked for a better day or a better guide. If you ever get to the Winston-Salem NC area, a couple extra miles south to visit Spencer is well worth the trip.

excellent …thanks guys!
