Spektrum AR6100 Receivers - Cheap

In another thread, we have been discussing a find on e-bay. There are multiple listings at various price/shipping cost combinations that are selling Buy-It-Now AR6100 receivers for around $18 to $20. The AR6100 is no longer sold by Spektrum, as it has been replaced by the AR6110, which sells for around $50.

I have purchased one of these cheap Rx’s and tested it. It works fine. At least as good as my other Spektrum RX’s: AR500 and AR6110.

So, today I get an e-mail from ebay stating that they have removed the listing because “In this case, we removed the listing because the copyright or trademark owner of this product reported that they believe the item may not be authentic.” I just checked ebay and there are still many listings on-line for the same price.

I did and do have some doubts about the authenticity of this product. Others have stated they may have been removed from helicopters that were upgraded to the newer RX’s. It looks just like my AR6110; all the markings are authentic looking. Although I noticed this one states it is made in China, and the AR6110 and others are made in Taiwan.

Starnge. They might be knock-offs but I think there is a better chance that they are factory over-runs. Stuff a Chinese factory made for Specktrum, but was never sold to Spektrum. They were probably instructed to destroy them, but someone had a better idea

I think I will try and buy a few more before they disappear completely.

EDIT: If eBay pulls them all and you are still interested, I can provide the seller’s email address.

EDIT 2: I just bought two more. Counterfeit or not the will do exactly what I want. He is now selling for US Dollars. I paid $17.50 each for two.

Hi just did some quick research on the R/C forums and the fly boys are using these. They all state good performance, but it sounds like they indeed are clones. There are still tons of ebay listings, same sellers. And the R/C threads I read were back in June, so I don’t think it is going away anytime soon. Wouldn’t hurt to stock up though, if you don’t mind a knock-off. I sure don’t if it works, and they do.

Ggrrrrr!!! just my luck the servo pins come out the end which makes them problematic for the Plug in ESC I have now. Servo cables are a pain and they cost money.
Still, at the prices quoted they are good value as long as they last.
If they are clones it won’t take long for JR to jump on them as they guard their patents zealously.

Tony - Lead spacing on the 6100 is 0.1". It was widened on the 6110. As for pins on the end? The 6100E and 6110E have end pins, the 6100 and 6110 don’t. Both are available on ebay.

I just go this from the eBay seller…

I replied that he should ship. Now I just need to save up enough to add some ESCs and batteries and I’ll be able to power 3 self contained locos and a trail car.

I decided to purchase some more of these cheap AR6100. Went to e-bay, and the listings are now gone. Rats! However, it looks like there are plenty of sites from Hong Kong selling them. It just may be a little more risky? I found another deal though: $12.99 each plus one shipping charge (not on each item like the e-bay listings were). http://www.targethobby.com/spectrum-ar6100-e-mini-receiver-v16-on-sale-p-4161774.html I placed an order using PayPal. I’ll let you know how it goes.

My second pair from the same eBay seller arrived Friday. It was very rainy here all day, so I had a chance to rummage around in the attic and find some old RC stuff to yank a battery holder and a servo out of. I tested all 4 and they all operate perfectly.

Time to start thinking of some uses for these

I can think of at least one … RailBoss

How did I know you were going to say that

I have received 3 AR6100E receivers I ordered from http://www.targethobby.com/. All test good. Total cost, including shipping, was $47.61 ($15.87 each). Transaction was via PayPal and all went well.

I am trying to buy the AR6100 R/A pin version from another HK dealer. They have them, the price is right but will only accept PayPal as payment. So no deal so far.

A pity really as I could probably sell a lot of them here.

Haven’t those dealers heard of regular credit cards. Hobby King accepts CC’s.

Tony, I understand your reservations using PayPal, but I’d much rather do a PayPal transaction with a dealer in China than to give them all my credit card data. I really think PayPal is safer. I’ve had an account for years and never once a problem. You can tie a credit card to PayPal so it’s just a funds transfer via PayPal. You pay nothing, the dealer pays all the fees.

Thanks Jon.

I understand many people have no problem with PayPal.
I just don’t want to give them all my data either.

I have never had a problem giving my CC details to Hobby King for example. They process promptly and deliver on time.
I would get their Orange DSM2 compatible equipment but they only have the end mount pins and are out of stock anyway.

It seems the dealers in China have to pay exhorbitant fees for being CC merchants. But that doesn’t weem to be the case with Hobby King.
I will no doubt find a way to work around this.

As an aside, one of my customers is working on modifying a game boy type TX 4 channel GWS system to make it work with the RCS - BELTROL program.
The goal is to be able to offer a really low cost system.

The only problem I’ve had with PayPal is that after using it, I get an email asking for my credit card account number to verify the transaction. It looks like an “official” PayPal message with PayPal logos and everything, even says it’s from PayPal dot com. I forward it to spoof at paypal dot com. Those folks in Nigeria must have gotten tired of trying to get me to send them money so they can make me a gazillionaire.

You have a dead uncle there too???

I quit using PayPal after a few of those “official” notes. Then my Ebay account was hacked and Ebay locked me out “for my protection.” If that ever happens to you, good luck. I was never able to contact anyone at Ebay to straighten it out.
