Large Scale Central

Specially for Fr Fred, but also

for anybody else who fancies seventeen sun-filled minutes of Welsh narrow gauge behind #87, an ex-SAR Beyer-Garratt locomotive in 2ft gauge…

And while you are on that page of YT, have a look at Pt 1, as well.

It’s almost as good as being there.

Thanks, Joe. It’s the longest barrow gauge line in the entire UK, and cost an absolute fortune to rebuild, since many roads, bridges and right of way had been constructed/instituted since it was closed way back when. However, most would agree that the ride, especially through the Aberglaslyn Pass, is truly specactular by any standards - especially so when they have the annul SuperPower weekend, and run double-headed Garratts.

I have never had any desire to travel much, least of all to Africa, BUT…I would very much enjoy taking more than 17 minutes, visiting these two railways. I think maybe more like 17 days, would be the minimum.I could spend all of one day just at that Pub in Porthmadog…maybe every second day…watching the railways operate, and the fresh air along with the fine views of lovely ladies, on the platform…oh yes, I hear that “Spooner’s” has a fine dark Ale, and can be convinced to provide a dram or two of a Welsh, Single Malt Whisky…then of course a healthy chaser of Laphroaig…

But…the railways are the THING…Garrets (Of the light variety), and Farlies chuffing their hearts out, through scenery that has few competitors, anywhere.

Terry…all the more reason for me to have purchased a second ticket on the lottery for Saturday night…you and I, and any other like minded old farts, must rent a PRIVATE car, and have it take us on all the lines in the area…with our own steward, or fine Barmaid, if possible.

Just think…enjoying Oysters (Oh…you don’t eat them…sorry) on the half shell, served with a fine white whine…while going through those tunnels, and the gorge…oh…it costs nothing to dream, and my friend…DREAMS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO COME TRUE…without dreams, and sharing them with true friends; life wouldn’t be worth much to me…

See you soon old floon…!!!

May I come on this trip too?

Those Beyer Garratts are terrific and that railway is a nice scenic journey.

Some parts of that video reminded me of Eric Shades layout.

Nice video. I’m not a Garrett fan but I do have to admire the beasts.

Fred, instead of that barmaid, don’t you want The Lockkeeper’s Daughter?

Steve;

I’m so glad you mention my long sought after love. There might be great hope of finding her in that area. I had hoped that Terry had searched for her around there in his travels, but being a happily married bloke, he might not have had his sites set quite on that target. I just have to take on the mission myself.

COME ON LOTTERY…!!! (Dreaming as usual)…!!!
