I just got an email claiming to be from Stan Cedarleaf, except it wasn’t his email address. It claimed he was stranded in Manila and needed money to get home. Pretty obvious to me that this was a scam but just thought I’d give you guys a heads-up.
Crap, I already sent my life savings.
How are you,
Sorry for any inconvenience, I’m in a terrible situation. Am stranded here in Manila, Philippines since last night. I was hurt and robbed on my way to the hotel I stayed and my luggage is still in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment on outstanding bills I owe. Am waiting for my colleagues to send me money to get back home but they have not responded and my return flight will be leaving soon. Please let me know if you can help and I will refund the money back to you as soon as I get back home.
Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you,
Stan.
See, it’s easy to see that is a scam, he’s asking for money, not trains.
Greg
Boy,that Stan will do anything to get money.
ya and I even sent him $50,000. Good grief live on Stan(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif) Later RJD
It probably was an email that Stan had. This happened to me a few years ago. They hack an account and change the password so you can’t get back in. They send an email to everyone in the address book hoping for a few bites. The surprising thing when this happened is many people called to make sure I was alright and people I never expected offered money if I needed it. It was refreshing to know how many friends you really have.
Many people with smart phone don’t have anti-virus programs on them and they surf the internet on open wireless (Free Wifi) connections without realizing what they open themselves up for.
But Greg was right - Stan would have asked for trains not money…

At least I have custody of his luggage…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
And I have his trains. If you want him out of Manila, send money, in small, unmarked bills.
Wait, he’s in Manila? We’ll have to drag him outta there, with a LBFM on each arm. Never mind. What should I do with all these train thingys?
hehe
I got one too. Have fun in Manila.
uhh… no… Read the first post (cardinal rule in forums (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)), he said that he knew it was not from stan since it was not his email address… stan’s email has not been hacked. Stan’s address book might have been lifted. Greg
