I knew they’d been working for a long time to restore this loco, but I wasn’t aware until now that they’d finished in October and steamed her up. Unfortunately they could only run her back and forth a few times on a couple hundred feet of track. Still, it’s pretty freaking amazing to see this famous, historic loco running for the first time since 1954:

Thanks much for posting this information!!! I have kept an eye on their progress through the years but had kind of lost track in recent years.
It is really special to see her under steam again and what a beautiful restoration job they did(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
She has always been one of my favorites, her and #9. Use to go out of our way to go through Independence and Laws just to see the old girls on display.
Thanks again
Rick
I would love to see it run on the C & T someday. With all the live cameras that they have it would be a great.
Very nice! It is a great feeling to get an old engine running again! I would love to see it out on the line pulling a train.
Fantastic news! I’ve stopped by the restoration site in Owens Valley several times and wondered if they could really pull it off. I hope #18 has a long and successful career ahead of her.
I don’t know if it’s even possible but it sure would be great if they could get a few miles of track built on the old grade. Especially if they could go all the way between Laws and Independence.
That is amazing Ray! Thanks!
I go to Mammoth Lakes most summers, and have seen her and the Laws site many times, and like above knew they were working, great news
Imagine if that line from Laws to Keeler was still around, what a fantastic scenic run that would be
