SP Daylight X4449

Well we missed Thunder Over Michigan again this year but it was well worth it. We were on the road for over two hours and waited over 7 hours to see it. And it was well worth it! The beautiful, awesome Southern Pacific Daylight rolled into Durand, Michigan on it’s way to Owosso, Michigan for the 2009 Train Festival. This is/was a once in a lifetime chance to see it in person. We were able to get right up to it and take all the pictures we wanted. From the front, sides, back, and on several tracks with several backgrounds. It was fantastic! The Daylight arriving at Durand, Michigan.

The Daylight leaving for Owosso, Michigan.

The rear-end observation car.

Thanks Jon.
Nice shots.
I love the train station there in Durand.
Did you get any pictures of the station?
Ralph

Looks like she picked up a new rear end car since she blew past our place. She had a Zephyr Dome Observation car then.
Great pix!

You all like pictures of teh Painted Lady I can put a few more up, by Rick Brown. They were taken when she and 844 were here in the Puget Sound area. Rick is a Uncle Pete fan and chased them all over the place. You have not lived until as you cross the grade crossing and get the BIG horn and look up into the front of the Painted Lady at about 100 feet! That gets your attention!

Jon,
My friends 7 I waited for 4 1/2 hours west of Kazoo for it. Got shots (slides) of it west of Kazoo, Galesburg, and leaving Battle Creek. Hard to believe all the “regular” folk that came out to see it as well. Every town the people were lined up trackside to see it blow by. What time did it finally arrive, my guess would be about 830pm or so? Thanks for the close up pics.

If you guys have any pictures post them! Here’s one of the station taken on the west side of the tracks…

Thanks Jon. The station was very busy at one time. I bet it is still a good place for railfanning. Ralph

It’s still pretty busy considering it’s a bit out of the way now. Amtrak still has a regular stop there and the rail fans are there 24 hours a day year round. It’s one of the best places to see trains moving around in Michigan.
