My brother and I visited the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia. Well worth the trip. These fine folks are hard at work making improvements. Upon arrival, we came upon this depot that the museum has moved to this location.
Out front, they’re hard at work installing track for a “ride on” train acquired from the Birmingham Zoo.
What I really liked about the museum is that you can board many of the cars. Though not all are restored, it sure beats trying to look at them through a window.
Interesting milk tanker I’d never seen before. Looks like a reefer or box car, with two internal tanks.
Here is just a small sample of the rolling stock at the museum.
A nice surprise, the 6901 Southern Crescent, sister loco to 6900 at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
This loco was being used for the train ride. Short ride, but still a bargain at $2.00
Back shop area, where repairs and restoration work goes on.
As an added bonus, the museum adjoins a busy Norfolk Southern mainline.
If you get the chance, I highly recommend a visit. Ralph
