Source for batteries - esp. for defunct Sierra Sound

For those looking for low voltage and low amp batteries, check GOOGLE.
I needed a new Power Sonic (brand) battery, Model PS-605 WL, 6 volt, o.5 amp hr. battery for the Sierra diesel sound sytem in my GP 38. Google turned up several sources looking under Power Sonic batteries. Apparently, the Power Sonic company makes a full range of 4, 6, and 12 volt batteries. I easily found listed the Model PS -605 listed on an extensive chart at the abatt company site and ordered it.

Sierra sound systems have severe negative issues with its battery, so we were able to find a technical brief from Sierra with the specs for by-passing its battery completely and tying it into the two 7.5 volt batteries that power the loco itself. We built the necessary electronics package with a few parts from Radio Shack. Now no more messing with the recharging difficulties, with taking out all the screws in a USAT loco just to replace the battery now and them. Have a look at this website to learn about the problems with the Sierra battery and what to do about them: http://www.girr.org/girr/tips/tips6/sierra_tips.html

which provides 12 volts of regulated power for terminals # 2 & # 4 plus motor output opto couplers on terminals # 7 & # 8.

Yeah, Tony, this is, in effect, what we did. I didn’t get a photo because we wrapped it in shrink wrap before I could turn around. Thanks for sharing your picture, because I have another loco with Phoenix Sound to modify.
