Soundtraxx Tsunami TSU 1000

I’m thinking of using the Airwire /Gwire control system in my engines. I was told by Soundtraxx that the TSU 1000 would work.
Has anyone used the Tsunami TSU 1000 in there trains, if so how do they sound?Do you put a resistor across the motor leads to simulate a load for motor noise?
Thanks, Richard

Hey Richard.
I have a Bachmann Shay that has a Tsunami sound card in it. Before I sent it to the shop I was testing the sound out and it sounded really good.
I sent it back to Bachmann because the center truck didn’t work. The sound however worked really well.
I did like the sound.
I’t was in the engine when I got it so I couldn’t help you out any further than that it sounds good.

Some of the three truck Shays were indeed fitted with a Large Scale Tsunami sound decoder.
None have ever been sold separately and if it failed good luck getting it fixed or a replacement supplied.

As an aside I wonder how many three truck Shays had to be replaced under warranty because there were no Tsunami spares for those that failed.

The sound card didn’t fail. It had an issue with the drive line.
The middle truck the wheels didn’t rotate.

David, I wasn’t referring to your situation specifically.

Rather it was a general comment on the Large Scale TSUNAMI.

Given that there were no spares ever made, I wondered how many Shays that had faulty deooders, had to be replaced with complete new locos?

Richard, be aware that the Tsunami HO decoders (and for that matter, the Quasinami in the Shay) do not tolerate G scale voltages well.

They normally go bonkers at around 20 volts.

Not really a good choice because of this, and also because they do want a motor connected to do the chuff, I think a resistor will not allow the chuff to work correctly.

Greg

Ok Tony, Sorry I misunderstood your comment.
I may be getting a different loco back, if I do I hope it’s a good one.
Gee I didn’t know they did that with the sound card. Yea and it’s not cheap shipping those locos back to them eighter.
Thanks for the info. Tony.

What happened to Richard’s original question/situation?
