Yikes! Sorry about your wreck, hope everything works out.
Most likely that uninsured figure came from the insurance companies – and they never lie!
Glade to hear you are fine Tom however the Mallet sounds like it needs to recover some. Now how does one in Cal escape not having insurance? Here no insurance no tag. And its all on computer. Besides are there not road checks. As regulated as they are this is a surprise. Later RJD

Here in Ny you’d think the same thing…but it takes nothing to License and insure you car then simply let it lapse and NOT turn in your plates. OF course there is a fine BUT they have to catch you. not right or fair but then that’s life…always someone working the system.

A sad day. I was waiting at a traffic light behind a big gray Kia when a big gray Honda hit from behind hard enough to push the front of my car under the Kia.May your day be less eventful than mine.
(Madam Mallet is still in the trunk. Last I saw her, she was upside down and parts that usually don’t show were showing.)
Tom, You were behind a “Big” Kia, and were smacked by a “Big” Honda.
You weren’t in a “Little” smart car, were you?
I haven’t seen a big Kia or Honda before.
Just bustin yuh a little. :).
I drive a Heavy crew cab Chevy Sierra. Now that’s big! I can’t even see a Kia in front of me at a traffic light.
Hope you are doing OK.
I think many in California are avoiding car insurance the same way Nevadans are doing it. The government passes “laws” requiring insurance but people find ways to get around them.
No one seems to care except those of us who have to carry Uninsured Motorist insurance to cover the flakes who are uninsured!

In NC the Sheriff will show up at your house to confiscate your plate if you let the insurance lapse. And they suspend your driver’s license too.
I know two people who have sold the only car they owned, and then received a letter months later informing them their driver’s license had been suspended.
They both went through hell trying to get it reinstated.
But I still have to pay an “uninsured motorist” premium
Ralph
Ralph you have to pay for those Sherriff’s visits somehow. What’s worse in NY is that they charge you $2 per plate to turn them in. They however do not suspend your license nor send the sherriff around.

Hi Geoff
That figure on those insured I heard on L.A. news the past couple weeks. They didn’t give a source.
And I just got a notice from Libertyville that I haven’t purchased my 2010 vehicle sticker.
“Thank you for your reminder. I no longer reside in Libertyville and, thanks to a rather rude Honda Odyssey, I no longer own my 98 Baretta.”
Have little black Kia now.
Funny, I have two friends with Honda Odysseys that have both been rear ended in the past couple months. Both women were stopped in traffic and hit from behind, kids and drivers OK, vans fixed or being fixed. Then saw a third last week (BAD) hit by one of those Fugly Breadbox Scions (not much of it was left). Appeard to be a few injuries in this one unfortunately.
But my Odyssey (RA1, the only REAL Honda Odyssey sold in the USA) is due for brakes…I am looking at a box of Honda pads as I type this…I will not try to hit you in the interim Tom.
