Large Scale Central

Some questions from a returnee to the hobby

welcome,Jeff.

for cutting wood lengthwise (ripping) i just use the lokal carpenter.
he already lost all those fingers, that were uncautious - and i like to keep mine.
he uses offcuts from his normal work and cuts them to my specification.
he likes the little extra money and i like not to buy an expensive tablesaw.

BTW, here are some more links to useful stuff for scratch-builders… The first one, Scale Hardware, has a vast selection of incredibly small nuts and bolts, and also miniature rivets:

Brass detail castings:

White metal detail castings, and other “Large Scale” stuff:

This is way more info then I expected. Thanks to you all. As for the ECLSTS it is in my calendar and I plan on going Saturday.

Jeff, if you come over Friday night, there’s a “Drag and brag” session at the hotel. It’s a great time to meet a lot of the folks on this board. My wife and I are doing the show on Saturday as well, but we always arrive Friday so we can socialize.

Pete, do you have any more info on that drive?

Or, if you can’t make it Friday nite to the D&B, stop by the alcove in the layout rook and say Hi. Most of us hang out there. It’s where Ric Golding sets up his Tmesaver layout and it’s at the opposite end of the room, near the big exit doors.

I will for sure.

And if you are note sure where the “Alcove” is, here’s a diagram of Memorial Hall…

Thanks Jon. I live about a half hour away and have never been to the York Fairgrounds.

Then you need to be like Ken! Show up for the festivities on Friday night, and again for the show on Saturday.

Yea, I’m an hour and a half away, but it’s cheaper and easier to drive back and forth. I also try to meet up with Ric and Andy on thursday to help them set up Ric’s Timesaver layout, (and shoot the s**t) but this year I’ll have some visitors from Canada stopping by the house on their way to the show, so I’ll miss that fun.

I find this show a great way to get the new train year started and renew old friendships and get aquainted with new ones.

Back to one of the original questions. The youtube resolution is crap. But maybe one of our English friends recognizes it…

If you look around 2:09 in you will see engine 59. Single large wheel. Again at 1:48 and a front view at 1:49.

It also shows up af around 4:30

Yea that is a good one.

found this elsewhere… about 3/4 down the page “As far as I remember the loco in the Quiet Man was a GSW “60” class, or D17, 4.4.0. The carriages were MGWR six wheelers, or at any rate the one used for the film characters was.” http://irishrailwaynews.multiply.com/journal/item/780/The-quiet-man?&show_interstitial=1&u=%2Fjournal%2Fitem

Sounds like you’ll have to wait for “Edward”
