Large Scale Central

Some of my latest mangles

Hella Fellas. Thought I’d stop in and say, “Hi.”… The Allegheny Valley backshop has been VERY busy the last few months – making a bunch of little, and not so little, messes. – In no particular order: Re-scaled an Aristo c-16 with a bug mauler cab & shortened B’mann tender on Aristo trucks- it now looks more Glover than Grant:

Kitbashed a B’mann bobber into a side door logging caboose:

Kitbashed a Monogram Mack stakebed into a cable lift dump for the mine:

Tardis, Daleks, the Doctor, and Tegan… just for fun:

Scratchbuilt a battery op’ed faux Falk:

Scratchbuilt log cars, 3 done, have materials for 2 more but need to scrounge trucks:

Stuck a snowplow on a STAINZ, of all things:

Scratchbuilt a 7 ton Climax, This one was a LOT of fun!:

Currently mangling a mangled (dropped and broken) Bug Mauler even more…

Future projects? Just as soon as I can find two LGB drives that I can afford Kim and Mairi want this thing:

They all look great. I like your style. Gives them a real backwoodsy feel. My kind of rolling stock. I especially like the little porter with the log cars.

and what the heck are these things???

Neat looking stuff!

Mik,
Welcome back.
Looks like you’ve been busy during your absence.
There’s no place like home

Not a Porter, a Marschutz and Cantrell (never heard of them? They were in San Francisco -- they didn't build many, but all were weird, wonderful, "one off" pieces) It's not a "scale" model in any sense, more of an "inspired by" -- I just haven't quite figured out a convincing "backstory" to explain how a rare West Coast styled engine ended up in Pa, yet. Maybe I'll just leave it UNexplained, like the dinosaur, the gnomes, Winnie the Pooh, and the Daleks ;) http://www.randomron.com/falk.htm

Nice work! I especially like that C16

WOW, you have been busy! Nice work.

“Exterminate! Exterminate!”

Love the Dr. Who bits…mixing two of my favorite hobbies in one is what keeps the hobby full of whimsy…nice!

Seems the Doctor and Tegan are going to be chasing those pesky Daleks all the way to California. A friend in Nevada, Ca (bad as Indiana, Pa) has named them as his price for building me 3 Gn15 amusement park coaches. (that he promised me something like 5 years ago and finally got around to making, lol)…

For those who want to build a few themselves, there are plans for cut out paper Daleks online that you can use for patterns for the bases. The middles are tube and strips, the heads are washers & tube rings with half a wood bead… The “fun” (read BORING) part was cutting all those little plastic pearls in half.

Sumbudy has been bizzy, bizzy, bizzy. Have anymore pics of your C16 bash cab? I’m working on a C16 Forney bash and want to do some detailed piping. Though most seem to not have an air tank, air pump or steam generator.

Starting to come together, not nearly finished, but to a stopping place because I have to work early tomorrow. I think if B’mann had done them this way to start with, I’d have owned more of them over the years… If anybody really wants this one when it’s done I’m open to offers…

Brian, here are a few cab pix of the RGS #41 at Knotts with everything labelled, courtesy of a nice fellow named Jeff Taylor on the NGDF board. Hope it helps.

Mik, Nice job, The c-16 looks like the little connie on the Lawndale RR. What was the starting piont for the Falk loco? Dave

The carcass of a cheapy battery op 2-6-2 that my (now) ex found at a flea market, a pvc pipe tee, and a Delton c-16 cab.

A little more progress on the bug mauler… Coal bunker was shortened about 7/8". The coal load is actually aquarium charcoal mixed with those little plastic bits that Woodland Scenics calls coal. It’s held down with diluted white glue. The brake wheel migrated to the proper side and was replaced with an Ozark one. The backup light got moved to a new home as well.

Re-arranged and cluttered dome, plus added dynamo piping. I also added wash out plug castings to both sides, just above where the crown sheet would be. Next steps are brake piping on the pilot, touch up the paint, lightly weather it, and try to sell it.

Mik,
You should post the interior and restoration photos in the article section so it will be easy for others to find in the future.
Ralph

Ohh and lets not forget the NEW Dr. Who with David Tennant as the Doctor ( I think I like him better than Tom Baker!)…All the fun with 21st century special effects…

Ralph, I did as you suggested... Then I had to break it into THREE parts to get it to load!!!! There's something like 75 photos included, so I figured that they could tell the story better than me.
