Large Scale Central

Some great modeling photos

This has some fantastic large scale modeling photos , so good its hard to tell , sometimes …

from a posting at G Scale Mad by saddletank . All differences aside , this is great large scale trains done well . http://www.gscalemad.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=4943&st=0&gopid=135812&#entry135812 check out some real looking modeling .

The Ruschbahn, owned by Andy Rush in St Neots. Not only does it look wonderful, it is also operated to a proper timetable and represents a fictional section of the Ratischebahn in the 1930s

Cool stuff! I hope nothing derails in that yard, though. I don’t know what’d be worse–tripping over the overhead wires or slipping in the pond.

Later,

K

Thanks for linking to the other pictures at GSM.
They avoid derailments in the yard by having flawless trackwork.
Looks like the pond may be resin.
Beautiful RR.

Wow that is really cool. Thx for the pics.

Dennis,

I got a heads-up on that, too. It is very good … but … if one knows the RhB and the Grisons … well one is less easily fooled.

Hj I thought the views to be impressive , and your layout came to mind , from what I had seen that you were doing so far , I think that your layout will have impressive views also .
I also know that you cannot help yourself but to maybe notice the shape of an insulator or the proper shade of a color , or the way the wires were tied to a pole , and so on , BUT , to a less skilled eye , they are beautiful scenes of model trains . Hows the progress on your layout ?

Dennis,

They are very good and beautiful and they capture the mood very nicely. OTOH when going to all the work of putting up catenary, how about using more scale size insulators? Forget about using engines that don’t fit the era i.e. the 2xx switchers. The Kroks look hot with the two pans on the wire, but they would look better yet if the pans would be the old type that required both pans up, since the contact shoes couldn’t handle all the current.

It’s all the niggly little detail that sets an era.

RhB Grischun is coming along, I’m in the process of running the DCC and the AC-wire. The last of the track - for this stage - went in a week back. Have to upload more pictures … one more job on the endless list!

That is pretty marvelous–I’d like to see the “outside” of that valley, and the overall setup. How does a viewer see it approaching it? Also I assume it’s outside? It looks like natural light. But it’s hard to see how you’d keep that clean outside. If it’s artificial light, it’s a really great lighting job

Those are beautiful.

There have been aditional photos and the trackplan dwg posted at the on going posting , some of the ‘before’ pics and photos from further back …WOW really comes to my mind .

I was wrong, the pond is real, and 4ft. deep :open_mouth:
Great pictures.

Ralph,

You need to tune-up your eyes! If you see water coursing down a streambed emptying into the lake … chances are … that is real water.

BTW on those mountain ridges, there was a write-up in GartenbahnProfi on an RhB layout in Germany with a similar construction for the mountains. I’ve done an “artist’s impression” of what needs to happen in our garden around the waterfall area. Just as soon as I get “a-round to it” I’ll post the picture i.e. as is vs what could be.

The selling feature of the proposal was/is: even less lawn to cut.

I guess you saw a video HJ. I didn’t see any water moving :stuck_out_tongue:

Ralph,

You are forgiven! Neither did I … but … I’ve built a few layouts with rushing water that was stationary, perhaps that’s how I learned to tell one from the other.
