Large Scale Central

So what did you get?

That must be a heck of a bumper, to need to upgrade the suspension for it.

I go t a pair of purple macks and they already have sound decoders installed and working along with led lights on the front/rear and top!!

I really wanted 3mm common anode red/white lights but could not find any so I settled for just bright white 3 mm leds for forward/reverse plus yellow on top flashing.

These should be good for pulling my Halloween cars.

I got the USA Trains 25 ton crane and tender car. These are very beautiful cars. Happy New Year everyone, Dennis.

The photo with Santa where I was barefoot got me on the naughty list. All I got was a jigsaw puzzle. I’m NOT going to tell the giver that I can’t do a jigsaw puzzle

Since I lost my good gerber pocket knife a few weeks ago, I bought myself a new one. Merry Christmas to me! I love how they are easy to sharpen and hold the edge well. My “Camluus” knife takes hours to get sharp, and then tomorrow you have to do it again.

Grandma Clause got Grandpa Clause a real live old original railroad oil can.

How can you tell it a RR oil can? 1st, it stinks like only steam oil does, from the stuff in the bottom. 2nd. notice that there is a darker ring around the bottom of the can, On a steam engine, on the back head of the boiler there is a steel shelve used to hold the oil cans, and keep them hot. Steam oil is very thick, like cold Karo syrup, unless heated. Setting on the hot shelf all the time, gives the oilers that distinctive dark ring, its also a good place to heat your breakfast burritos!

Some RR’s had there initials embossed in the can ( rare find ) so they could help prevent theft from the overpaid workers.

In addition to the bumper, I’ve previously added a full-length roof rack and ladder, and rock sliders. I’m also planning to upgrade the skid plates. So altogether that’s a significant amount of extra weight. Plus I want it lifted a little.

That is awesome!

An aristocraft flat car, a painting of a train on a viaduct from my son’s girlfriend and other train decorations

Nice, Santa just dropped off a second Accucraft coach. My passenger train looks great now.

A box of brown, bilge water stirring sticks…

Yea, I have a few knives that just don’t hold an edge. Its frustrating.

Well you could temper those blades … One jeweler I knew would anneal his engravers, sharpen them and then heat treat them to glass hard and then once again to less that that, so they wouldn’t be brittle. He quenched in ice water with an oil on top… First to cherry red and the second to ‘straw’…

There’s just enough info to be dangerous!

John

I’ll just use the Gerber and keep the other on the shelf for next time I can’t find the good one.

Mrs. Clause brought me 3 sets of AMS logging disconnects. R.E. Mington, owner of the WSRR, has already put them to use hauling logs to the mill to mill lumber for this years challenge.
