Dave;
Bobby is away on a camping trip, and probably doesn’t know about the server problems…
Sounds like another dos attack…
Warren Mumpower said:Yep, if you go to the main page, you get to look at the latest connections that came up as failures. Sure looks fishy to me!

One of the worst nightmares for a DBA is managing connections. Ever notice how, if you shut down without logging off, you come up as logged on next time you enter LSC?
Whaddaya mean shut down??? What is this ‘log off’ of which you speak???
Dave Healy said:Wouldn't that occur because you've got "remember me" or some such thing clicked that automatically reestablishes your connection every time you navigate to the site?

Whatever the cause, the board is sure acting weird right now…very slooooooow!

Tokyo was a hoot in contrast - there I had fibre-optic permanent connection at 56Mb. By the time I go back in november it will be 96Mb…
tac
Tac, you are watching Black Adder re-runs again, I can tell.
As surely as Mr Sure when he is surer than a sure person who has just one the surest person of the dacade copetition…
F’ sure
TAC, it isn’t so much the time it takes to get connected to the site, but the speed (or lack thereof) of getting from one page to another.
Currently it’s working great. So the DoS attack must be under control.
Yup, even my 16.8 baud is acceptable, as long as I have a fresh cup of coffee. We get our internet by Pony Express out here in beautiful Deer Park.

“Shut down” means turning off your PC.
Yes, it is possible there’s something called a cookie on your PC that indicates whether or not you’re logged on. Think of a cookie as a small file stored on a PC.
“Connection” means a string of text that describes how you’ve connected to a database. It sets things like how long your PC will keep trying to connect to the database before it gives up, whether or not what you send to the database is encrypted - things like that.
A connection can be open and closed. While it is open, a connection consumes resources on a database server. Too many open connections can be a reason why no new connections are allowed. It isn’t the only reason, but it is a common one.
