Large Scale Central

So I needed a Turntable for my new Ridgeway Roundhouse

Well the cart got a little ahead on this one.

I designed this up in Solid Works and had it laser cut in MDF. I 3D printed a couple of shaft clamps to hold a piece of heavy wall copper drinking pipe.

after the glue dried i coated the surfaces to be exposed with spar urethane.
i was able to print out the tie layout in two pieces and tape together.

the sides were also cut out of 1/16 MDF, and were glued up and coated with the same urethane.

Here is the completed frame. the outriggers for the rollers, and the rollers themselves were 3d printed , and fitted with ball bearings.

the finished bridge for now. it will be waiting a while for the pit to be installed.

I will note it is a little longer than the real Ridgeway turntable so it will just fit a Bach man K-27 @53

Al,
This is a fantastic build! I enjoy your mixed use of materials and construction methods.

Regarding the prototype in Ridgway, did they simply turn the few mikados on the D&RGW wye instead? I realize that would have only applied to a couple locomotives in the waning years, but still interesting!

Welcome aboard, Travis, keep posting!

Travis,
Correct on the use of the D&RGW Wye.

here is an updated view. I added the handrails and the push poles, turnbuckles to the slide plates and blackened, and weathered the rail. i also sanded the ties around the perimeter where the rails were hanging up, so it now spins freely. there is only one push pole, however, as it will not clear cars on the ajacent siding, so it is removable and reposition-able. I have also laid out some gravel / ballast for appearance sake, to be glued down shortly. the whole area to get ballasted this winter.
