Any damage? Mineral is what, 80 miles from you, and a 5.9?
Musta shaken pretty good.
I don’t know about “good”, but there was a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on! I was in the basement working and ran outside…
It was also felt up this way although not nearly as bad. I personally did not feel it.
I didn’t feel nothing and everything is still hanging around.
My coworkers and I were in “Stunned Disbelief” when our office started to shake in Roanoke, VA. The last time I got shook that bad was when I split a switch with the Dry Gulch RR train at Hershey Park in the summer of 1967. I read on MSN.com that the roof of the town hall in Mineral, VA collapsed. Mineral is the closest community to the epicenter of this quake.

David Meashey
Doesn’t appear to be any damage on the railroad. A number of items have fallen off of shelves. The china cabinet was in a bit of disarray, but nothing broken. I don’t see any new cracks in the walls or ceiling.
Now ya know how we feel out here in California!!! Hope everyone is OK.
They had a 4.5 in Colorado somewhere one of my Facebook friends advised of it as they have property there. Didn’t say where, maybe she’ll advise later. Regal
5.9 ??? Pah! wake me when its a 6.5
Victor,
The quake was only six tenths of a mile deep. So close to the surface, they create more damage and are felt much further away.

I just thought the washer went into spin cycle - about the same feeling… dogs only whined after. Thanks for the warning guys!
Been through my share of shackers. Like the Wolf Creek in the early 70’es I think, had an obove ground pool, water everywhere but it didn’t go down! The last one here was something else, Old Town Seattle did not fair too well, we had a couple of things fall and break. How ever I will take the ground moving to everything blowing away!

I was in the car and didn’t feel it, but it had ceiling lamps swaying in one of our buildings. Probably about the most movement we’ve had since I moved here in '82.
Victor Smith said:The main difference is stuff out here wasn't, and isn't built "quake proof" The spires of the National Cathedral are just the tip of the iceburg, so to speak. 75-80 year old gas lines, earthen dams, bridges, older houses, etc. will all need to be inspected (but many won't be until they fail) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/23/virginia-earthquake-washi_n_934307.html

That wasnt an earthquake…that was our Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves…heheheheheheheeh
…:)…
It was felt here
It’s fun watching the news and getting all the people who have never been in a quake! And yes there was some damage! Out here in the WEST we design for earth movements, that is how I make train money!
