I did manage to get out and do some plowing before the snow got too deep. Not easy getting good video footage when your one person. No doubt a two person job. I did get a short video. I used battery power, not an easy task with icy rails.
Looks good thanks for sharing. and try to stay warm;)
Looks great Shawn.
I just finished changing out couplers on the freshly shopped GP-9, Back in plow service for the first time in 4 years or more, Double ended plow train is all hooked up and outdoors under cover getting cold. As soon as the batteries are done charging indoors I’ll give it a try.
Came up with a low-end second hand video camera. Might give that a try too.
Thanks for sharing ! Terrific video
The music thru me off for a bit though until i realized it was also a Christmas ‘card’
One person vid is not so bad I setup the shot with cam in a position similiar to a trackside railfan turn it on and then pop over to crank up the power (trackpower of course) With digital of course, can edit out the extra front and back vid capture. sometimes though while fussing with the software i figure easier with analog 8mm tape… although then I could not edit out the waste front and back so like ya mentioned one person vid crew can be challenging !
The snow looked perfect nice fluffy/fresh, not too heavy with moisture.

p.s. hope ya have a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday season !
Nice, Shawn, nice. Let me know next time, I’ll send you some of our famous powder. Much easier plowing.
Thanks guys. Doug I use windows movie maker. Its nice because I can edit whatever I don’t need. What would be nice is to have a few cameras set up along the layout where I can turn them on via remote. Then I can get more angles and run the train without stopping to reposition the camera. With plowing you only get one shot then the tracks are cleared. Either way still fun trying lol…
Hans the snow is powdery. Temp is only around 18F. The ground is a tad warm still so it softened some. Cant wait to get the XC skis out.
It was a real struggle to get this edited and posted. I picked up a second hand Aiptek 720p camera for next to nothing. It’s a really low-end camera but small and takes higher resolution video than my old Fuji still camera. Problem is it only outputs in H264 .MOV format that Windows Movie Maker does not like. I downloaded a free converter and between fighting with it locking up and trying to find a compatible output format, it took all afternoon for a two minute video :[
But here it is…
Nice Jon. Well worth the effort. Not easy getting realistic shots and plowing at the same time.
Shawn and Jon,
Thanks for posting great snow plowing videos! It’s very hard to believe we live only a couple of thousand miles away and have so much difference in weather. We were 75 degrees today here in Burbank, CA and it will be 82 by Tuesday. Thanks for getting me into the Holiday spirit.
Thanks guys. Gary we were around 11 degrees most of the day yesterday brrrrrr.
Shawn, Great Video! The end is a perfect Christmas Card.
Hey Jon,
Sorry your efforts were more involved than you thought it should be. The results were great!
That “cheesy box car” sure does a nice job in the video. The build up of sound at the initial start is impressive.
Thanks Ric. I had a Big Sound '97 in the GP9 originally. It sounded good, but when I changed it over to the 2K2 in the Cheesy car I was blown away by the difference. I have 4 sound triggers on the Railboss board plus 2 on a trigger board. I have the set up as Engine Start/Stop, Throttle Up 1 Notch, Throttle down 1 notch, Working, Bell toggle on/off, and Horn. It’s really nice to be able to kick the throttle up to Notch 2 before starting to move forward!
I got me a ice scating rink instead of a rail line!
Nice videos !
Makes me kind of jealous!
Last night singe digits , Ice didn’t melt much…more snow on the way today!
I never got the line open. Much more snow arrived after the photos & video then a layer of ice on top. More snow today. Supposed to be close to 50 on Friday !
I had the plow out this weekend as well.
Here’s the video:
Thanks for the videos, real nice CZ and nice work on the plow.
