Going through my engines after being confined to the Styrofoam prison for a few years, I found the brackets for the Bachmann Shay smoke units turn brittle and are in pieces, the smoke units work fine but cannot mount them anymore inside the boilers.
What would be a alternate smoke element for the Shays?

MTH units are the best. Ray Manley sells some modified units, might check with him.
Many possibilities, I would advise you to narrow down the choices.
So, do you want a lot of smoke (fan driven), or a little smoke (heater only).
Does synchronized smoke interest you?
And the most important question: what is your budget?
(seems many people ask for the moon until they hear the price tag)

If you separate the fan from the main unit it will fit into a K27,install the fan away from the unit and create an air channel to supply the unit with forced air!
