Before you throw away those old audio or video cassettes, take out the screws that hold most of them together. They will come in handy some day. Jerry
My wife laughs at me, nothing hits the trash until I COMpletely disassemble it and save anything that may be of use some time in the future - evenif that future is 20 years down the road. Gears and stuff from cassette players and CD players, screws, spindles, drive belts, motors…
I’ve been doing the same for years. Funny, I’m never out of screws! Also, in Kalifornia, you can’t throw electronics away, so stripping everything down lets you throw all the metal and plastic parts away in normal trash, you only have to hide the circuit boards.
Regards, Greg
AH! HAH! We’ve got you now Greg!
The Environment police are on the way!
BTW:
I’ve been hiding stuff in the garbage for years!
I’ve got a bag full of retired DVCPro tapes I’ve “rescued” from the dump bin at work. (Gotta love format changes.) The smaller format tapes (Hi8, MiniDV, DVCPro) are great for screws similar in size to an 0-80 screw. Now, if only I could convince Panasonic to use hex-head instead…

I never thought to use screws from electronics/tapes. Thats a great idea. Time to tear apart all my old tapes etc…
I’ve been doing it for years also, love all those screws!
you can never have enough self stripping screws…
You have such a way with words.
Jerry, I have been saving screws and parts worthy of flat car loads from VCR’s, tape decks and other electronic equipment for years. You can find neet loads in electronic equipment!
