Slide areas in the Thompson and Fraser canyons

How are they handled?

In many of my videos from the Canyons one can see the electric warning fences which trigger the alarm in case of a slide (snow or rock etc.).

There is at least one area in the Thompson Canyon — close to Lytton — where earth moving equipment seems to be on constant stand-by (parked just off the track).

When CP’s competitors built the line down through the canyons they were left with “the tough side of the rivers”. Not that CPs side is easy going, but the CN side is much worse.

From “Train Country” … The train crews and MoW crews refer to the area along the Thompson and Fraser Canyons as “Slide Alley”.
