SIP Vs RIP

Most everyone has heard of a RIP track (Repair in Place). The local construction debris loader looks to have a SIP (Scrap in Place) track

Nearly a rear ago the RR refused a loaded car because it was falling apart. The owner (BTFX) must not want to repair this well abused high sided gondola because it hasn’t moved other than to roll off the end of the siding on to the ground. It’s still loaded, probably waiting for when the value of the steel goes back up so they can justify the labor to unload and cut it up. Tell then it will just rot.

The Illinois Terminal had a scrap yard as an industry right next to one of their biggest yards. Yard is now quite a bit smaller, but the scrap dealer is still there. Most of the old equipment was torn apart on a SIP in the junk yard. Takes awhile to cut up an engine.

We have an industry in Mt. Vernon, Illinois (Precision) that is an engine rebuild facility. Lots of equipment in many stages of tear down or rebuild. Power plants sitting all over the place in shrink wrap.
