Sinsley 2022 MIK build log

Wow, looking really good ! Impressive!

NOw that you are done, you can come out here and help get us over the line! Looks great!

So if you think youā€™re done, can I have your extra time?

At the rate Iā€™ve been going for the past week, I doubt Iā€™ll finish in time.

Iā€™m fine with it but I doubt anyone else will.

Iā€™m good with it, you can use his hours as long as you are finished on the same day as everyone else.:joy::joy:

Pete,

Mentioned beauty shots. Well I have the sand house done, the windmill done, and the tank is nearing completion. a couple braces and the rest of the shingles on the roof and it will be done. I cut a 12" wide X 8ā€™ long piece of 1" foam, painted the bottom and the outer edges black, and mounted a 1X3 to the bottom front edge. I will put a 1 X 3 X 8 cleat on the wall to attach the foam to the wall and then all thread and ceiling anchors will suspend the front edge from the ceiling. This will be the base for the ceiling layout (at least this portion of it). On that will go the track at the front edge and I am thinking of adding another layer of 1" foam behind the track to raise all the buildings and scenery above the track so it can be netter seen.

I have no idea if all that will be accomplished for the glamor shots. Would be nice. But at the very least I will make a nice little display for the final shots.

I really like that rusty sand hopper/tank. You now have me rethinking mine that is all nice, clean and shiny new.

Nice job.

That turned out fantastic, Devon! I love all the ā€œmixed mediaā€ involved, very realistic.

Well things went crazy at my house last week and weekend. So I didnā€™t get any of the ā€œotherā€ pieces of Rowson doneā€¦and didnā€™t get the ceiling layout up.

But none of that was part of the MIK build. That was just going to be for pictures. But at any rate I did finish.

The only thing I purchased was the iron patina paint. And while that stuff was expensive, I only used a fraction of it. Letā€™s say I used $3 bucks worth. Everything else was stuff I had on hand.

Very happy. Two new ideas were tried and both a huge success. First was the Fiber Optic light engine that uses a single LED to light as many as five fibers run to out to different fixtures. For this project there are three lights. The other thing is the patina paint. That exceeded my expectations.

But any way here it is

Nice job, Devon. I particularly like the roof weathering, the sand pile, and the shingled upper walls. Oh, and the nice little architectural detail at the peaks of the roof ends. Very victorian for a sand house! Goes great with the green color (in my weird mind).

Very nice.
I like your sand tower way better than the one I built.

Well I would argue yours is much more in keeping with the Spirit of MIK. A tin can instead of a 3D printed one. So I give the nod to you.

impressive! far beyond my meager efforts.

That looks great Devon! Awesome job!
