Singin' In The Rain - POC 13 photos

Had the priviledge of a very nice visit by Bruce Chandler and his lovely wife Jean. Of course Bruce as a visiting engineer had to run a train… For those on dialup…Please let me know if the 13 photos in this post resulted in too long of wait. If so I’ll make future posts with fewer photos.

Bruce with his train at the unfinished Bandon area.

An unusually long train today, 10 cars, that could cause problems when he brings it into Coos Bay. I can’t imagine why the train should be so long…! Just one of those things I guess.

His train parked on the inbound track Bruce runs number 6 around the train to begin switching.

It’s starting to rain now as number 6 breaks up its train.

Hat set straight on his head a little rain doesn’t phase this grad of TOC’s School of Wet Water Ops.

A car is dropped at the team track shed.

After pulling a couple of outbound cars more cars are dropped off at the lumber warehouse and uncoupled from the caboose.

Hmmm! The rain made these flimsies even flimsier. Now if I can only read that goofy dispatcher’s rotten writing.

The sun is shining now (eat your heart out Dave) as number 6 blocks the county road.

Bruce is making great progress on this 30 minute switch job. Only a little over an hour has passed.

Jean drops by to view the action.

Another job well done as engineer “Close Clearance Chandler” (ask Bruce :D) brings his steed into the service area.

A trip on the turntable and into the roundhouse completes a busy shift. We had a lot of fun and Bruce and Jean are such wonderful people. I do hope we can get together again some time. You guys are always welcome here…!

Looks like a good time was had by all. I’m jealous

Richard,

Thanks for the pictures! Nice stuff.

Why do I get the feeling that a Pacific Northwest Theme song should be penned.

We are soaked to the skin, but we still grin,
as long as we run a train in the rain.

Next!

Ahhhh! Culture! We call it poetry in motion…

Great layout worth the waite for the pics!!

Wow, that’s an awesome layout! The structures are beautiful!

Somebody had a great time!

Poor Bruce , I wonder how long it take him to dry out from this trip !

Of course, the old geezer that runs the place can’t help but make you feel welcome. I know Bruce had a great time there, rain or no rain.

Wonderful pictures. Truely shows a railroad run with a purpose. Thank you for sharing. Maybe someday.

Wow, what a fun trip! Well, except for the last part where American Airlines canceled our flight without telling us. We did get back, on Alaska Air. I guess it’s the same initials. What’s a little rain? Besides the railroading, there was food and drink as we visited the hot dining spots in Port Orford.

Great food, and great company! Jean and Helen had a great time researching Jean’s family. (Helen’s hobby is Genealogy.)

Of course we had to visit Cape Blanco, the inspiration for Richard’s RR logo. Naturally, it’s open EVERY day of the week, except for Monday, the day we visited, so we couldn’t get very close. Still, it was a pretty view.

The sun did come out for a bit, so I was able to get some neat shots as I was working through Richard’s switching challenge. I tried to get him to pay me by the move - I would have been rich. The sun also helped dry us out after the first part of the session just drenched us.

The elevated layout makes for some really neat shots.

Like Dave, Richard has a lot of his structures lit up - and they really look neat as twilight approaches.

Great Pix, Bruce.

Wow! That shot of the depot after dark is fantastic! You should send that in to GR.

Your pix came out great Bruce. Too bad that ol’ resident wino in the floppy hat kept getting in your photos. We try and keep him locked up when visitors are here.

I’m glad you and Jean had a good time and that you arrived home alright. We sure enjoyed your visit and hope that you’ll be able to do it again sometime. Oh…and that Ken fella’s welcome to come along also.

My ol’ pappy used to say “watch out for operators” but all you guys, east or west or south or the frozen northland, that love ops are the greatest. And…anytime you’re in the vicinity, well, you know where I live!

I want to go see such an excellent RR in person.

Well jus' turn yourself rightside up and c'mon over Tony! Bring that ol' Ford guy with you. You know you're always welcome! And...many thanks for the compliments not to mention the no-strings help you and TOC have given to so many of us over the years.

Well, if you ever make a trip, Tony, I might have some recommendations. Along the way, we stayed at an excellent B&B - the Tyee Lodge. What a view!

Between Dave and Richard, we had a really great time.

Great photos, Richard and Bruce! Thank you for sharing!

Bruce, looks like you and Jean had a fun, but slightly wet trip. Sorry to hear of the airplane hassle. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures of a good time! Thanks to both Richard and Bruce for sharing.
