Large Scale Central

Simple and cheap

Ok this is my first effort of posting a project on here, so please bear with me.

I found these lights on a recent visit to a Store here called Poundland. USA may want to try a Dollar Store. They are easy to disassemble and take styrene glue easily.

I really wanted the Pictures to appear in the page. Not as Hyperlinks. What am I doing wrong please.

Ron -

Two ways to do it:

A -Open the Insert/Edit Image window by pushing the 4th button from the left and paste the URL in the URL box of the window that opens. All other details can be ignored.

B - Surround the URL in your original post with Image tags [ img ] and [ /img ] (without the spaces)

Not sure I understand the last picture. Are you making a light tower?

Thanks Jon. Yes it is a light tower. The pictures are of the various steps to the completed model you have shown.

I’ll get there somehow.

You have to use the tree button to post a photo. Just click on that, then paste the jpg into the appropriate box. Easy.

Thanks for doing that Steve. I’ll get there.

Very ingenious, Would that hold up outside?

Welcome Rod

Welcome aboard Rod,

Good to see you posting here.

Rick

What’s the output voltage of a USB?

Think they are meant for plugging into a PC so should be about 5v.

.

“Very ingenious, Would that hold up outside?” Thats where my two are Phil. In hind site I would have used slightly thicker tube for the mast.

David and Rick, thank you.

John and Ross, I wired in a new Resistor to enable it to be powered by 12 volts. I have a Malibu garden lighting set up. I run all of my lights on the RR from that. (Mostly LED’s)

What resistor did you use Rod?

There are flexistrips up to 15 to 20ft long approx. 5 metres available in various colours (300 odd tiny surface mount leds in groups of three) and cuttable so they can be wired in. They are 12v and can be had as waterproof types.

The strips have inbuilt surface mount very tiny resistor on them and when cut into groups of three or 6 or whatever… just wire into any 12v system. A reel works out from China at about $10.

PS When they arrive they smell horrible…its the waterproofing…

Jerry, Not being an electronics guy. These are what I use on my projects. Just one to each tower.

That’s 560 ohms with a 5% tolerance.

Is that good Joe?

If that is what works, it’s good!

A side benefit of this project has been the use of the cut off ends of the light bar. They have been painted to become wall lights. See attached.

The bendy piece between the USB plug and the light bar, have been utilised on my “spare hand”. I now have far more flexibility. Also attached.

Very inventive, Rod.
