Silverton Northern Casey Jones Rail Bus measurements needed

I am considering building a 7 1/2 gauge version of the Silverton Northern Casey Jones Railbus to run here in Houston on the HALS Zubie park line. I have a lot of detailed photos I took of it years ago, back in the 80’s, but I have lost all my notes on measurements. Does anyone know where I can get some measured drawings of this railbus. I had drawings of it back in the 80’s when I built an On3 version for a friend, but I have lost them. Any help would be appreciated.

Dan S.

Have you tried the Colorado Railroad Museum?

How about a google search. Later RJD

There is mention of drawings here but you might have to register to get at them.

Plans were published in the Mar/April 1993 edition of the Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette. I’m pretty sure I have the issue. I will look for it and let you know. If so I can scan and Email.

OK Dan, I do have the issue, drawn by Al Armitage. Let me know if you want them.

You could probably go ask **Loco112** for them. He might only charge you your first born.

My buddy built this version.

When I get home from this trip, I’ll see what he used for plans.

Gary: that would be great if you can do that for me. Sadly, all but one issue of the 1993 Gazettes have come up missing. The only one I have that I can find is the July/August issue. you can email me through here or straight to [email protected]

I have plenty of detailed photos that I took of it back in the late 80’s on one of my trrips to Colorado, so I am covered there, I just have lost all my measurement notes I made at the time. I built an On3 version from them back in the late 80’s for a friend which included real glass in the windows, opening and closing doors (sides and Rear) with working doorknobs ans included the broom holders and brooms for brushing object off the rails.

Garratt: I have tried joining the NGDiscussion Group a couple of times, But I never heard back from their moderator with a password so I could post questions. I have looked there for the drawings, but from what is listed , they only talk about the Railbus, but no mention of drawings.

Ken: I have not tried the Colorado Railroad Museum yet.

Thanks for the help guys.

Dan S.

Gary: got the scans and they are exactly what I needed, It appears to have been done in 1/2" scale, so it is a simple matter of up-scaling it to meet my needs. I also did some searching last night on the internet and found a guy that was restoring a 1909 Pierce Arrow and had photographed every piece that had to be cleaned or repaired plus he had manufactures drawings of the chassis and drive train. So between the drawing you emailed me and the photos I took in the 80’s and the ones for the guy restoring the Pierce Arrow and his drawings I am all set to start the project, Well as soon as I get the clutter out of the garage so I can get to my Mill and drill press.

Thanks again

I look forward to seeing this project! All power to the elbow.

But he didn’t get the side windows right, neither did Berlyn Locomotive Works. A model I have.
Otto Mears will not be impressed!

Berlyn Loco also cheated with the motor. I guess they already had one from their RGS rail truck model they made previously.

Yes, some plans would be best!

Andrew

Good deal Dan, looking forward to seeing your project !

I looked at getting one of the Berlyn units, but decided I wanted to build it from scratch like I did on the On3 version. I did notice that Berlyn left off the Broom holders on their version.
