Silverton CO. This weekend

What I did this past weekend… The Durango Railroad Historical Society (DRHS) is starting a new major project… The Restoration of Silverton RailRoad Bagage Car #5. It is an 1880 D&RG 26’ car, that was most famous for being the Rolling Darkroom used by William Henry Jackson for his famous Rocky mountain Rail Road photographs. It is the only surviving car from the Silverton RR.

this weekends job was to get a pair of trucks from a wrecked D&S gondola and then set the SRR 5, on those trucks, and get her into the Silverton Northern restored Engine house before the winter set in…

Got it done, now to have a “Beg-A-Thron” to help with the $$$ cost…

It looks like a real long term project. I’ve put in a few hours on EBT Combine 14 which has been a work in progress for 20 years. It is finally nearing completion and rolled out of the paint shop (FEBT Restoration shop) during the work week just ended. Good luck with the fund raising. The money is out there. It’s just a matter of reaching the right people and getting them excited about the project.

Combine 14 still needs it’s trucks assembled, it rolled out on shop trucks. That will be the next priority for the combine crew.

The local historical society just restored the last OR&L coach in existence. It started in worse shape! So, yes, it can be done!
