Signs of Spring

Things are starting to bloom in Western Connecticut. The Forsythia is out as are some of the fruit trees. Willows have been showing growth for weeks and some of the Maples are leafing out. This is all about 3 weeks early for us.

Today it was 88 here. I get projects going early in the spring because it’s pleasant to work in the 50’s and 60’s. Mixing and pouring concrete this evening made me feel like it was August. At least we don’t have summer humidity yet. Temps are scheduled to go closer to normal by the weekend.

After the last few days with well above normal temps things really started to bloom. Starting to see some small leaves in trees.

We are well into “Spring” with Tornado watches and temps varying from high 80’s to low 40’s. The wind for the last week has made most outside activity uncomfortable in any unprotected area. Spring storms have been moving through, almost daily. Maples and oaks are dumping leave trash to the point it looks like snow. Red Buds are in full bloom, everything is coming alive, always interesting.

After a glorious week of summer weather, we’re having a few days of dreary cold and wet weather. Pretty nice April in Chicago.

March certainly left “like a lion.” It is still roaring in the second week of April.

One of our local hotspots, the Garland Theater.

Rooster Steve not Turkey!!..If that was here they would all be in the freezer by now! I personally prefer the taste of wild turkey(not the booze) over domestic farm birds.

I prefer the taste of Wild Turkey to domestic farm B1-RDS, too. SWMBO has insisted that we become chicken farmers, so now we have 4-5 hens and 1-2 roosters. The roosters are so cute! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the yellow one is a hen, and the other two are roosters. Time will tell! They will be free range B1-RDS, which is why we got some roosters. The dogs are learning to ignore them, now.

Just let the dogs hang out on the forum for a little bit. They will learn to ignore the rooster like the rest of us have.

I can tell it’s Spring. If I’m not working on the layout I’m pulling weeds!

Thats because Andy pays me to give you trouble. :)

So much for spring. Its been on/off snow for ther last hour here.

We’re back to more seasonable weather. In the 80’s most of the week, now it’s back down to the 50’s-60’s.
Dogwoods and redbuds are starting to come out. And like Doug, the weeds are proliferating…

I thought I recognized you…you’re Tom Bodett  Enough flowers. Time for train pictures. Cleared enough vegitation from the ROW to run a train. I haven’t cleaned the track yet, but things worked well enough. Put out a minimal amount of buildings. Waiting for the Round Up to do it’s thing before putting out the rest.

Ralph,

Those are great pictures! I wouldn’t use to much of that Round Up. I like the look of the train going through the Country.

Thanks Ric. Country it is. The next station on the line is the Shady Rest. And I understand Oliver Wendal Douglas has a Law Office in town  Here the train is parked after the last evening run
