Large Scale Central

Signs...and weathering

Bruce, I tried a bunch of stuff (I even noticed that my original photos were slugged wrong), but no matter what I click on, I don’t get an image. For example, I copied only the little symbol at the beginning of the line and got this little icon, show below.

My problem is that when I right click I don’t get “Copy the Image,” or Copy Image Location." I get merely, “Copy,” and “Paste.”

Now what? Bob or a siginifcant other host, why the frown?

OK…when I open what you posted in a new window I get this…

[ht tp://www.largescalecentral.com/%3Cimg%20src=‘ht tp://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/joerusz915/Garage2.jpg’%3E](http://www.largescalecentral.com/<img%20src=’%3E)

without the space between the first two tt in http…

this tells me you are copying extra code…if you click on the link…then let the picture come up…then do a right click to copy the URL you get something like this…

[ht tp://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/joerusz915/Garage2.jpg](http://www.largescalecentral.com/<img%20src=’%3E)

Once again without the space between the TT…

Swell, Bart, ya got the pictures to go (but how?).

I thought that I had brought up the picture before I clicked on it, but I will give it another shot in the Testing Forum (no point in dragging the whole site along, although you sure helped).

Anyway, thanks.

Yeah, I can explain fading signs. But, fading posts, well, not so much.

Bart, I did, I did! The way it goes is, as I scroll over the line in question (garage2) the thumbnail flies in and hangs there, at which point I click on it, causing it to open (presumably) so it pretty much takes up the screen and blots out the Freightsheds menu. The I right click (Copy) on the image, flip back to my post or Quick Reply, and hit Paste. Looks OK on my working screen, but when I try Preview or actually Post Reply, well, ya know what happens.

Bart, I just re-read you post about the space between the ht tp. Well, I don’t write the code so however that got there it wasn’t me, Fredo.

By jove he’s got it!

OK, fun’s over. Bruce et all, what I did was right click on the URL line (the one that identifies the image and all that) without opening the image, which is tough because the dang thing is jumping all around begging to be clicked on and opened.

Anyway, when I right click on the URL, the menu offers “Copy Shortcut,” which I didn’t do because I thought that would send my picture to like My Desktop or sumthin." It don’t.

What ya get after you click “Copy Shortcut” in your post or your reply, is that line with the URL, which doesn’t show the image on your working screen, but does make the image appear when you send you message.

Maybe there’s another way, or maybe someting is awry (Hello, Bob?), but at least this works. Strange though, that the previous method did show an image on you work screen, but not in the sent message.

Bruce,

As for Salmons Produce I think it has weathered out quite nicely. Of course I like things that look old and faded like me. hehe!

I not old and faded(well maybe) YET…but I was thinking the exact same thing Richard!

Thanks for your support David…

What are “paint masks?” Is that like a stencil? Or do you mean that when Richard peels off Del’s vinyl letters–exposing the paint underneath–is that what you mean by “paint mask,” Steve.

Yes Joe, a stencil. Unlike my makeshift method which paints the background color after the letter color the mask allows you to apply paint the “correct” way by applying the lettering color last.

Thanks, Richard. Sounds like something I should try. I’m busy messing with the dimensions of my car repair garage (see: “How big is that, really”) and when I get 'er built, the stencil-and-paint technique will figure prominently in the project. I’m going for the look shown in my photo posted for me by Bart. Don’t ya love those faded letters.

BTW, I learned a lot about brickwork and how they built stuff in 1930, researching this project. The son of the original owner, who had the place built then, is 85 and alive and well, so I can still get answers and also look at some great photos taken back in the day. I became fascinated by the place because it’s still a working business today and although the name and appearance have changed somewhat, to the locals it’s still known as (name omitted by me 'cause I have plans) Xxx’s Garage.

“… to the locals it’s still known as … Xxx’s Garage…”

Hmm, that could be the first garage where it’s the mechanics, not the customers who lose their shirts.

(and I’ll stop there because it can only go downhill fast…)

Later,

Well, you know what they say about us folks in California.

Actually, Kevin, I am hoping to find a home for my story in the print world so the less said the better.
