Sign in / Signed out ?

I clicked my link to LSC again this afternoon and found myself logged out. Yesterday (and the prior week or two) I was signed in when I arrived. I don’t clear cookies or other browser storage between sessions.

Does this always happen on Sundays when the site is refreshed, or something? Is there anything I can do to stay signed in ? [Yes, I click the “remember me” box!]

I think the software has a “time out” feature on being logged in–maybe every two weeks or so. It’ll happen to me when I refresh a page sometimes. I just log back in and I’m good for a few more weeks.

I find that I am logged out after Adobe Flash player crashes. Even if it crashed on another site, when I come back to LSC I am logged out.

It logs me out almost every time I leave. Been doing that for years; I just don’t worry about it.

Dumb puter Question!

Hi Guys

Are you guys staying log on all the time ? I understood to log out when not active to keep viruses out.

Thanks Dave

I stay logged in, I just close my browser. The idea of logging out is for online banking and other sites with sensitive information. If you don’t “officially” log out, then a hacker could conceivably take over the open log in and mess with stuff you don’t want him messing with.

I never log out - like David, I just close the browser window. Nevertheless, sometime when I click my bookmark, I’m logged out.

Once about every month or so I have to log back in. I think it’s the web site “expiring” the login cookie.

Greg

Anytime that I have this site open in two browsers, (e.g., to post a picture), I will have to re-login.

I just expect it every time.

Gee Todd, that happens to me when I have it open in 10 or 12 browsers, but not 4 or 5.

I open multiple tabs in the SAME browser to avoid that problem. Saves system memory also.

Greg

Thats what I do…, just open another tab (I call it a browser) on the Google Bar, and it nearly always does it.

There’s a ton of things I can suggest that would fix this, it never happens to me using multiple tabs, and not on any of the 10 computers I use.

In the spirit of forgetting bygones, I strongly suggest you do your upgrades, and follow my suggestions on my site under computers, the main page.

It is NOT this site, it is an issue with your computer. After nearly 5,000 posts on this forum and almost 18,000 on MLS, my data is good about browsers, cookies and forum sites. It’s a plugin, or an errant setting or an old browser, or some program you use that is clearing cookies, or an anti-virus that is erasing them after a while…

Greg

It should be keeping the login cookie for a year, but Ive noticed that when I log in on another device, often I lose the login on the OTHER thing.

Seems to currently be knocking me out every week or two.

I have soooo had my fill of having to have an account name and password for nearly every bloody thing you do on the web.

No. No more.

There was an art supply I needed that our small town Walmart didn’t carry; it was said it could be ordered on their website and shipped to store.

Go to website, account name and password need to be created.

Screw that. I’ll make the 50 mile round trip to the city instead.

I have my reasons for this attitude so don’t go telling me it is erroneous by standards based on your personal life situation, you are not me and do not live my life.

Gee, do I have an attitude this morning?

Forrest, yea, I check out as “guest” if I can. Without creating yet another username and password.

Yep, checkout as guest, don’t save the CC information.

Your browser’s settings on cookies will affect things, and if you are running FF for example, and it pops up the screen “save login information” and you click no or never, the browser remembers… you can go into the browser to clear this setting for a particular web site.

Can’t tell you the hundreds of times friends complain about having to log in, and I can prove that they clicked the never remember setting or their whizz-bang super antivirus was deleteing login information.

Computers are stupid, they just do what you tell them… if you “click through” stuff, often stuff happens.

My login cookie seems to get cleared about once a month… and it’s consistent.

1 - Is there a way to put a quote inside a box? I can’t seem to find it in quick reply.

2 - Forrest, you are not alone. And it’s good to know I’m not alone. I can only guess how many sites I’ve had to “join” in order to do one little thing, find out one bit of information. I write down my password on a post-it that gets lost over the years until I need it again. But that’s okay…I don’t remember the username I used there anyway. I guess I don’t understand why the site doesn’t know I’m not a robot or a troll, and I always behave myself. Anybody who knows me knows that. That’s why I don’t want to join their club and receive news of great sales.

3 - Am I terrrribly old fashioned if I keep my cookies turned off unless I know the site I’m visiting really, really needs it? Is it just because I usually only order ONE item that the site lets me skate without that precious cookie?
