Asking $125 for all

thanks,

Chuck

Not knowing who might be interested in these components and not knowing what to ask, i may have not properly priced these items, so i want to add—“Or Best Offer” to see if someone with interest might make me an offer.

Chuck,

A few years ago I purchased some ‘used’ Sierra Soundtraxx systems for my locos. They cost me less than you are asking, but weren’t quite as complete. My EBT #15 still runs with the old Sierra.

A couple of comments for anyone needing an inexpensive sound system.

  • the original lead gel battery, if that’s what yours is, will be garbage. They deteriorate if not kept fully charged.
There is a Sierra accessory (I have a spare, I think, and Star Hobby may well still have one,) to connect the cound board to any power - i.e. battery. It might be that r/c adaptor board?

  • When I got mine, Sierra Support reloaded the sound EPROM for me to make it EBT Mikado. I think they can still do the same for your Westside Shay.

Pete,

The battery did not say what it was, but i looked it up on the web and you are correct, it is the rechargeable lead-acid battery. So, probably no good now as you say.

The description on the manual that came with the Radio Control adapter board kit I have states as follows:

“The Soundtraxx Sierra Radio Control Adapter Board is used to translate the signals between a radio control system and the Sierra Onboard Sound Module.
This board can be used with both battery and track power and is compatible with Locolinc, Aristo-craft train engineer, Remote Control Systems, and other large scale RC systems.”

So it is probably the same accessory you needed to get.

I truly did not know what to ask for these items, so i am totally open to offers. As i stated in my description, these items have never been used and are in their original packages.

My Ignorance… Could this sound board be adapted for use with a Digitrax onboard decoder? DG580.

Dave,

Not ignorant at all, I pulled out the manual and had to read to double check myself. Here is what it says:

"Sierra integrates a full-featured digital sound system and “Hyperlight” lighting effects for a multitude of North American and foreign locomotives. Depending on the effect, the sounds are generated continuously, automatically in response to some other action, or as controlled by the user.

The Sierra Sound Module is compatible with:
—Power packs (DC)
—Digital Command Control (DCC)
—Radio Control"

Later on in the manual I found this---------

“Sierra can be set up such that…effects may be controlled remotely using … a DCC decoder.”

The manual then describes that detailed instructions for wiring to DCC decoders are available from Sierra technical bulletins available free upon request.

I also went to their website to see if I could find any additional info related to this particular sound module, but I did not see anything listed. However, in the customer support section it did specify they support and will even attempt repairs on discontinued products. So , I would think they could easily answer any specific questions on interfacing these components to Digitrax.

Dave,

Here is my email: [email protected]
So hit me directly with further questions and i will do my best to answer.
