Shop on Wheels

Here are some pictures of my workshop. All my equipment is on casters and makes for easy working. http://users.eastlink.ca/~brownscountry/Shop.htm

That’s too clean. Go build something

A clean shop is a happy shop. Believe it or not this is dirty. My shop is cleaned at the end of every day. It makes it easier to start the next project when you can find everything you need.

As the sying goes, “A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind”

Nice! I kind of envy you guys who are capable of keeping your work areas so neat. I just don’t have it in me.

Hi Jason, way to go! Clutter is a waste of time easily remedied by spending time cleaning up! ;) :)

Oooops reminds me, I need to clean up the shop today.

Hey Bill, yes it is, first indication of extreme laziness. As in "I'm too lazy to look for everything all the time."

I'm with Ray. I know things should be cleaner and better organized but it never seems to work out that way. Of course, if I had a work shop instead of doing my work on a table outside or on the living room floor I might be better organized and catch less grief from my wife. Ralph

My personal belief: If you custom built everything in your shop and put the time in to make everything flow as you work then you tend to take better care of what you have and keep it clean.

My shop must be very unhappy…

As much as I enjoy seeing a well organized, clean shop; I find that if I tried cleaning up my shop; I’d never be able to find stuff…!!!
…besides I’d spend all my time cleaning and never get anything built…!!!

Modelling a neat, clean, well organized shop, is a hobby on it’s own.

But if I cleaned it up I wouldn’t be able to find anything!!

Padre,

Now that is a lame excuse if I ever read one! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m the other way around. I used to put a pencil down, then couldn’t find it when I needed it 5 minutes later. I bought extra pencils to see me through the shortages. Same with rulers. And other tools as well.

Then I started keeping my work area clean. It’s amazing. I can find the tools again! Not only that, I find that I can make things a lot faster - I guess because I’m not busy looking for tools half the time. It’s great to have everything organized. I have a lot of my stuff in drawers now and it’s so easy to find.

I love organization. I just wish I could achieve it. My excuse is a teenager that likes to work with tools, but when he was a toddler was never taught to put his toys away. My fault entirely, but it’s more fun to blame him

Hey Bruce, in that same vein. T-shirt I saw at Halifax airport said

Of course I
don’t look busy
I did it right
the first time.

Was going to buy one on the way home, our plane left at 07:50 and the slackers only open at approx. 09:00 - all the other shops were open including the seafood place. But not the slackers with the nifty T-shirt. GRRRRRRRR

Here you go, HJ:

Good idea…but that will get you canned at work. They want busy people. Busy, busy, busy. Busy being busy…don’t have time to work.

That's why I'm always hanging around here when it's slow at work. If the keyboard is clackin' they think I'm working :D

This is the working side of my work bench in my shed. As you can see it’s a not as neat as it should be .

This is from the front

This is another area (2 more benches) where I put things i have been/am working on

Nothing is really neat and sometimes I have trouble finding something I just put down. These are what I’m currently working on, slow going, but I am getting there.

Now where did I put that square? Later Dave

Dave, that looks like the “clean room” at a microchip plant compared to my workspace!
