It was like Heny Youngman dodging a tomato!

He's alway grinning, even when announcing the latest casualty counts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No TV ?
A personal choice, I assume?
I watch very little TV. But I’m afraid I’d have a mutiny on my hands if I tried to take the TV away from the wife and three teenage girls.
The “shoe toss” clip is more entertaining than most of what’s on the TV. It is funny.
But it is also disturbing. Not just the lapse of security, but the lack of respect. This is how far our Presidency has fallen. We should be outraged someone has insulted our President in such a way. Instead we are amused.
Ralph

He threw his shoes, because in the Muslim World the foot is the lowest part of the body. So pointing your foot at a Muslim is an insult. So I would guess Throwing the shoes is very insulting too. I thought George’s comment afterwards, on western Hand gestures with not all your fingers, was funny also.
Dave

Showing the sole of the foot is a great insult, let alone hitting somebod with a shoe - an insult that has been known to leave people dead in the street in some moslem countries, but throwing the shoe is the most serious insult imaginable.

If you recall the hauling down of the giant stautue of Saddam, the citizens there were hitting it with the soles of their shoes.

What that a&&hole did is the equivalent of publicly pi$$ing on Old Glory.

…and some of you are amused by that?

You often look at the UK, and take the pi$$ out of things happening there, but WTH has happened to you guys?

I am totally appalled by this.

Seems to me the report this morning is he’s in the hands of Iraqi officials being treated for broken bones.

Terry, for some reason, the usual suspects are ecstatic whenever anything untoward happens to President Bush. For reasons that escape me, they are consumed with hate for the man, and that hate overcomes all judgment.

I don’t think that they will be able to tell you why they hate him so much, other than they have been told to do so by the New York Times and others of that ilk.

TAC,
It was not too many years ago in this country that if you insulted our flag, president or honor you were, by the next morning, facing a squad, company, regiment of US Marines with fixed bayonets and honor was restored. Sadly, that is no longer politically correct for us and the rest of the world knows it. Showing that kind of weakness is fatal now days.
Steve,
You are absoutley correct. We must hate the man because the left, ie, NY Times and Hollywood, whom we worship on high, tell us to do so. The new St. Paul, Michael Moore, is preaching the gospel.

What the hay? Werent your GOP party guys the very same ones who all someone had to say was “Clinton” and their mouths literally foamed with hatred and their heads would spin??? and now you cant “get it” when your leader is on the receiving end of the same treatment? Theres a bumper sticker regarding this administration, “If your not appalled, you havent been paying attention” He’s doing such a great job, thats why his approval rate is lowest of any president since they’ve tracked the data. Lets see the Bush Legacy: Warfare against a country that didnt attack us while letting those who did slip away, 10,000’s of innocent civilians DEAD as a result? Economic Chaos to lack of regulatory oversite Hurricane Katrina and the fiasco of FEMA failure Ignoring Climate Change issue until even he couldnt ignore the facts Plundering of the Treasury to bail out Wall St buddies A greater gap between the very rich and the rest of us in history Huge tax breaks for the very very wealthy, little to squat for the rest of us Huge job losses that will never come back to US The largest deficit in US history Shall I go on?

Its not hatred of the man persay, but of everthing him and his croonies have done over the last 8 years. Throw the Bum out, good riddence. History will not be kind to this administration, I just wonder what else will come to light in the coming years after the investigations begin. PS…Where’s Osama???

Victor,

The Bush Legacy is that we have not been attacked for 7 years. You can say all you want, it doesn’t change a thing. May we say the same 7 years from now. We’ve now got Chicago Politics headed for Washington, DC, we’ll see how that works.

The President’s agile, it’s true.
He ducked not just one shoe, but two.
To bad humans settled,
As creatures bipedal’d.
A third might have knocked him askew.

Q:Where’s Osama?

A:Not in Guantanamo

No matter what other successes or failures of this administration, this is unforgivable, period. Like letting Hitler escape to Argentina but claiming Victory because we killed Mousselini.

That’s good, Bob!

I watched the video clip several times and found it amusing as George showed he was very agile in avoiding the shoe thrown at almost point blank range.
Yes it is a high insult, but mainly to Muslims, and as George pointed out it is part of the process of Democracy that people can voice their opinion. That part of the US intervention into Iraqui politics at least seems to be working. Just my 2c
Dave

The thing that struck me most about the clip was the big cultural difference between the west and the Middle East. In Iraq, throwing a shoe is the worst insult you can come up with, and apparently the shoe thrower is a hero now, but for Americans it’s puzzling and slightly comical. You can see Bush is mostly just kind of puzzled by it, and Americans are mostly laughing about the actual shoe throw, whatever they may think of the Iraq war itself.

What would an American with the same motives do instead of throwing shoes? I think either just yell insults or hit the guy. Throwing shoes just seems goofy, and it seems to kind of dishonor the thrower, doesn’t it? It’s not very manly. It’s not going to do much harm, the best outcome would still leave you, the thrower, walking home in your socks. Does it still count if you bring an extra pair of shoes, and throw them? Or do you have to to toss the shoes you’re wearing?
