I’m not sure how much dampness you guys get out there. Probably about the same as Grant’s Pass, which is minimal, compared with this end of the country.
I put a small stop on my TT pit, just to be on the safe side. It’s a 3’ drop to the ground.

A little more progress on the Redding Yard area.
I cobbled together a crossing to test the Consolidation and my largest Combine to to get a track pattern for the tightest possible radius and still have it function smoothly. They are somewhere between 4-5 feet so should work at yard limits with no problems. Building these bridge approaches on a radius and a grade is going to be fun.
Well these are done, took some head scratching but I got them parallel, on a consistent grade and with smooth radius turns, now if they just work everything will be great.
This is a little better view, the framing is level and the sheeting is angled on the grade using shims for solid support. The actual bridge span will be about 38 inches, plenty of room for a walk through.
Oh Ya, it will be a lift bridge hinged on the right end (in this picture) probably a girder design. I really wanted to use a Bascule design, like the Glouster Draw, but space limitations would’t allow it.

Got the turntable mostly installed today, the only thing left is the walkway and alignment connections once I install the trackage.

Now that the Build Challange is complete I can get back to building my railroad.
The #4 switches had arrived from Switch Crafters and so everything was ready to go once I had the time, but weather has been crappy, I know it is a covered area but the cold and wind have made for some delays. The last couple days we have had a little sun in the afternoon’s, so was able to get some work done.
All the track work is installed except the final connections at the turntable which should be finished tomorrow. One thing about this that may make it easier is that I can spray paint all the rail and ties in place then just clean the rail tops. But before painting I need to get a loco and some cars out here and spend some time shifting cars around to verify that it works in practice as well as it worked in theory.

Ken, the track arrangement is mostly based on where I wanted to go and the limited ways to get there.
Plus I wanted it to serve my existing structures and planned future structures and they would/will only fit the available space in certain ways.

Getting a start on the new Redding Depot, as the one from the old RR just won’t fit in this new location. The old depot will be re-lettered and used at the other end of the line at Humboldt Bay.
This new building will be a sort of typical small city combination freight/passenger depot customized to fit the location.
The platforms for the freight area and passenger depot are built and set in place to check for alignment and clearances. The two platforms are separate pieces that interlock to make this easier to move around, it is 5 and 1/2 feet long overall. The freight dock is where the refer is parked and the coach track is to the right. The track behind can be used for either coach or freight.
The freight dock (the raised area) will be open sided with a roof over the top. The open area seen at the far end will be the freight office building. The depot itself will sit on the OSB between the platform planking areas. I have done some napkin drawings of what I think I want the depot to look like but am going to do a cardboard mock-up to test for proportions and sizes.
I will post some pictures of the mock-up when it gets where I want it, and ask for some input.

You don’t need a plow …you need just need to pay your work force better and make them shovel that minimal amount of snow. However you could become member #2 of the Ken Burnt club unless he sells you his plow then you own it all ! Make him an offer and he will think about it by his wood stove !!!

Well, I got the station “mock-up” done and set in place. I welcome any criticism of the design and suggestions for changes.
Looking from the freight shed end, of course there will be support posts along the edge of the roof canopy.
The front of the passenger area of the building featuring the bay window and extended dormer above.
This end of the building is cut at a 45 degree angle to match the table which is cut at a 45 degree angle to allow for access to other parts of the railroad.
The freight office makes for a tight squeeze for passing equipment, but should work out fine.
The backside of the building will have no detail at all as there is really no viewing angle that is comfortable. The building will be wood sided and probably wood shingle roof similar to Southern Pacific small depot standards, even the Shasta Pacific’s colors, mustard yellow and brown, are similar to Southern Pacific standards, strictly a coincidence (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif).

It may be a couple weeks before I can get started on it as we just picked up our new Travel Trailer Monday and according to the boss that is top priority for my attention.
Getting it set up for our needs, getting everything from the old RV moved in and sorted out, learning the new systems, etc. Hopefully we will take the shakedown cruise
in a couple weeks if the damn weather ever gets above 40 degrees(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif).
