Inspiration, and model.
Alright, Jessie wanted to get crude from her big Schmitt, and that wasn’t happening until the rig was planted in its proper location. A few weekends ago I cut a switch in and laid track up to the abandon track from years ago. Today I got the rig treated and in its place.
First thing I did was to paint, if that is the correct term, the drilling rig with used motor oil.
Then I weeded and prepared the site for the rig.
Then I placed the rig in place.
Then I covered the area with black mulch. And I sprinkled some black material under the derrick and around the site. I think its a media for media blasting metal, but I am not sure.
The black mulch was free, I found a bag of it laying in the road in front of Lowe’s a few months back. And the black media was also free. Years ago there was a large pile of it dumped by the roadside, in the township where I serviced copiers. So I scooped up as much as I could, into all of the empty boxes that I had with me at the time. So except for the switch and switch machine, this project still hasn’t cost me any money.
Sweet. That looks Awesome
Thanks Devon.
Sure looks good. Are you going to let the weather gods age the tin, or what?
With the price of oil being what it is, can you afford to pump it? Well, at least you have a reason to have those tank cars, and a good place for them in opps sessions.
Dave, yes I am going to let the tin age naturally. Now I have an incentive to finish my tank car bash. As for the price of oil, in this era, kerosene is in high demand. Also there is growing demand for gasoline, for them newfangled horseless carriages.
David,
Nice work, you could lose your Butt Modeling standing if you keep finishing projects. Are there any areas in Pennsylvania that still produce oil?
I don’t know for certain, either way, if there are still oil fields that produce oil in Pennsylvania. But I do know there are lone wells that still produce oil, and the are many many more that are idle, but still in tact. The thing now is gas from the Marcellus Shale.
thanks for the update.
yes, it looks nice. much nicer on the layout, than on a workbench.
Thanks Korm.
