2009 LARGE-SCALE TRAIN SHOWS A Message From Lewis Polk

The economy is in serious trouble and JJ Productions is going to skip their SELSTS and MWLSTS in 2009 and we will see what happens going forward. The shows are for-profit shows and haven’t attracted enough of a following to be so. Frankly, we are not able to build for the future at this juncture of the economy and have decided to hold a second show in York in the Fall of 2009 instead of the two more distant shows. Harry Hartman has done a wonderful job putting on delightful shows and we have backed the shows financially in spite of losses. Frankly, we have no confidence in the economy’s success next year and will no longer undertake a losing venture until the economy is back on its feet. The York show is currently successful and like the TCA that holds the show twice a year in the Spring and Fall, we will attempt a second show at York. Will it work? We don’t know, but we feel we need to give our vendors a better chance to make a profit than the other two shows have done. Therefore, we have booked the same hall in York for October 22-24, 2009, instead of continuing with the other two shows in Perry and Springfield. We regret this choice as we have had tremendous support from the local clubs in both venues and the shows have been terrific if under attended. We need to fill a demand and the demand has not been sufficient enough to continue onward. The economy is so tough that we need to concentrate on and expand winners, rather than nurturing new shows. Our thanks to all who have supported us and worked so hard to make the shows so quality successful, if not monetarily so. We felt the shows helped to build the hobby, but we need to at least break even, not financially underwrite the endeavors. We hope the economy rapidly recovers and the overall G Gauge market is not involved in a recession beyond today’s tough marketplace.

All the best, Lewis Polk Aristo-Craft Trains

Seeing as how several things have transpired at York to marginalize certain groups of people, and suck up to other groups of people, at the expense of the paying public and the hobby in general, I’m surprised that it hasn’t happened there as well.

Wow, I’m channeling TOC.

I kind of liked

So, I guess this means that when the economy is good and profits are up the shows are an attractive write-off.

I’m probably a little weird, but when I’m depressed about the economy I go buy toys :smiley:

Bob;
Could you elaberate on that please…

I talked with Lewis Polk today regarding the SELSTS. I told him I was interested in keeping it going. He gave me his blessings to continue the show.

Therefore, I plan to do the show on the same dates and times.

We are working on getting a show car

I’m looking forward to the show and expect it to be a success.

I can use all the help I can get to get people coming to the show.

I guess the south will rise again.

Dave,

Good for you. I was hoping this would give spirit to the KC Show. I still think that is a great venue. May be it is not all about Aristo Craft as some believe. Sounds like the old, Long Gone and Busted. We can’t play so nobody else should.
